Bicknell, famous histor- iun, lecturer and scholar, founder of veveral church 2nd educational insti- titions In varlous parts of the coun- iry, and co-founder of the North Da- lota town of New England, died last night at the Horaeopathic hospital lLiers following an operation perform ed early yesterday afternoon. Dr. Bicknell was 91 year sold. He was the creator of the Rhode [sland state boardl of education, now fitty-five years old, and in 1871 founded the Rhode Island Normal sehool, now the Rhode Island college of Education, Dr. Bicknell founded the New Tingland Journal of Wducation at L Baston also the New England Bu- reau) of Education, now Winship's Teacher's Agency. Tn 1880, Dr. Ricknell founded the |} Fatlon Councll of Education at Chautauqua, N. T, and was elected president of the National Education assoclation of the United States in 1884, From 1830 to 1890 he smerved as representative of ward two, Boston, in the Massachusetts general court - and was chalrman of homes commit- taes of suffrags and education. Dr. Bicknell was leader and co- founder of the Harvard Congrega- tlonal church at Boston and the Con- zregatignal church at New England, | i N.
