Lieut-Col. Hammond has since died. The membership of the camp includes all officers, soldiers, sailors of the army, navy and marine corps of the United States who served at any time during the war with the kingdom of E€pain or during the in- sec- NEW BRITAIN DAILY HERALD, FRIDA prior to July ¢, 1902. Bince the or. ganization of the camp there have been 21 commanders, of which num- ber four are now dead Theodore Johnson, present state department commander, is the first member. of the New Britain camp to 'be elacted to this high office, and under his efficient leadership the department has had one of the most prosperous 'yea in its existence. During Commander Johnson's re- gime two new camps have been es- tablished and the membership throughout the state has been ma- terfally Increased. There are now 20 active camps in the dephartment of Connecticut, The present convention marks tue WILLIAM JONES Past Commander-in-Chiet third time that the encampment has been held in New Britain. The first was in 1907 when Hon. John Q, Til- |son of New Haven, at present a member of the United States house of representatives from the 8rd Connecticut district, was state de- partment commander. He was at that time speaker in the Connecti- cut house. The next encampment was held here in 1019, Frederick F. Houston |of Waterbury was at that time de. partment commander, convention, the local camp boasted no auxiliary, but was represented with one at the 1919 convention. At the present convention, the auxiliary will furnish lunch for their guests as they arri n the city to- night, and the camp will lunch for the visiting delegates. To- morrow afterncon, immediately t¢)- lowing the parade, members of every camp and auxiliary present will banquet at the armory, with | national efficers as guests of honor. | | OBSERVE ANNIVERSARIES | Mr. and Mrs. W.
