TIMELY NOTES OF CLUBS, CHARITIES AND SOCIAL FUNCTIONS and Other Notes of MISS MARJORIE BALDWIN Miss Baldwin is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carlisle Baldwin of Forest street. She will spend the summer in Europe A Brilliant Summer Season Expected For Shore Resorts New Britain Folk Open Summer Homes Along The Sound and Already Entertain Informally The week’s intense heat had the effect of sending New Britainites shoreward in great numbers. All the beach resorts as well as country places and mountain camps report a gay season. Madison and for the most part all the beaches along the sound are already very festive. The cottage colonies are life is at its best. A dip in the sound at 11, a midday luncheon at some one of the fashionable hotels or clubs, a short motor trip, followed by tea, then dinner and dancing—there’s a typical vacation day. Golf has its devotees, of course, here and at the summer colonies, while fishing, sailing' and tennis furnish abundant sport. ’ ; s ot At home it's Just a succession of bridge parties, large and small, Beginning on Tuesday when Mrs, Frederick A. Searle and Mrs. Kenneth Searle entertained at luncheon followed by | bridge at the Shuttle Meadow Club. On Wednesday Mrs. Gardner Weld gave a luncheon bridge at the club for Miss Agnes Johnston whose marriage to Dr. Clyde Olin Fisher of Wesleyan University on Saturday, June 13, will be one of the outstanding events of the summer season. Thursday evening Miss Johnston was again the guest of honor at a bridge which Mrs. Emory’ Corbine gave at her home on West Main street. . % * Entertainments for charity seemed to be more numerous this season than ever before and certainly they have been more diversified and colorful. They have varied from crossword puzzle contests and bridge to dances, dramatic performances, tableaux and musicales. Things of the East were very much in the picture yesterday, at what was perhaps the last really large charitable event of this season. Sponsored by Mrs. Buell B. Bassette with committees drawn from the debutantes, the younger women, and the younger and older married sets the Community Garden party in aid of the Near East Relief met with remarkable success. * . - DDINGS | D ENGAGI‘.\'I‘,.\"I’S’ NOTABLE W] A away by her father and will be at- tired in a gown of white satin with ‘!ra]n to match and a veil of tulle, Johnston-Fisher Nuptials Brilliant To Be Social trimmed with rhinestones and pearls.
