The ministry of de fense stated today that five bodic had heen recovered from the water and that one officer and 78 men of the 100 soldiers known to havr plunged into the river by the sink ing of a pontoon were still missing There is little hope that any of the missing men are still alive As to the cause of the disaster, th ministry statement recites that 150 soldiers were crammed onto the last of the five pontoon forries which was only iIntended to carry 100 men. 1t was this pontoon which sank.
