BIG TURNOVER 1N AUTOS DURING % 15,000 Motor ehices Changed Hands, State Department Says ' Hartford, Feb, 20.—~Approximate: Iy 43,000 motor vehlcles changed Lands in Connecticut during the past year, it Is Indicated by the records of the state motor vehicle depart- ment, At the same time the a8 a, decrease of 415 in the number of motor vehicle dealers reglstered in the etate, the whole number listed in the department for the calendar year 1924 being 598, The number of “motor vehicles which changed hands in the year was an increase of about 8,000 over the previous year, The department makes a charge of one dollar for each transfer of registra- tion, Gas Stations Increasing. Gasoline stations continued to in- crease, the number registered at the end of the year, according to statis- ties given out today, being 3,989, as ,677 at the end of the pre- r. There is.now a gasoline station for every three and one-half miles of road throughout the state, cn an average basis, including towns roads and all other types, and one for about every half mile of state roads, and applications continue to be received for the licensing of more. It was recently brought out that the stations already established sold enough gasoline in 1924 to fill Reser- voir No. 1 of the Hartford Munici- pal Water Supply to capaeity, and the supply of this reservoir is suffi- cient to fill the water needs of Hart- ford and its environs for two weeks. The average gross income of each retail gasoll; tation from the sale of gasoline was nearly $5,500 for the past year. Since there is no state tax on ofl, the department has no way to ascertain the average gross earn- ings on all the business of such eta- tions, It is true, however, that many garages maintain gasoline pumps, which are subject to the state licens- ing law, merely as accommodation to patrons of other departments of the garages and are therefore not profitable. Record Attendance at Y Bible Class Meeting Rev. G. H. Schneck gave in inter- s esting talk to the largest attendance of the year at the Y. M. C. A. Bible Class last night. His subject was “A Black Eye” and as usual he han- dled the subject with a great deal of humor, but brought out the real value of the eyes in really getting a vision, The attendance at this session was greatly increased by the dele- gations from Corbin Screw Corp. and Besse-Leland store. Their dele- gations ran very close jn numbers, with the Corbin group winning by 85 to 31 score in attendance, Through the kindness of Walter W. Leland a musical program was given by G. Fazzina, an accordionist.
