During the past year dozens of scientie expeditions have been sent out to investigage the possibilitics of these regions. From Viadivostok it is reported that the commission of Professor Polevoy, which has returned from Kamtchatka, anounces it was successful in finding great sources of oil there, so plentiful that it literally could be squeezed (rom the clay Another commission explored the Tongussky basin, near the rivers Yen- esei, Lena and Angara in Siberla, At Novonikolaicvssk this commission an- nounced the discovery of great coal fields in the basin. Platinum and graphite algo were found Explorations are continuing in the Kola peninsula where last year a number of hithcrto unkngwn metals were dgcovercd, in the mountainous districts between the Arctic and the White Sca. These metals arc syp- posed to have been of meteorogical origin.
