C————m PUTS LID ON IN SOUTHINGTON County Detective Orders Saloonkeep- ers to Dismantle Bars By July 30 Or Accept Consequences. (Special to The Herald). Southington, July 27.—Saloonkeep- ers in Southington were ordered to dismantle their bars by Monday, July 30, by County Detective Edward J. Hickey yesterday afternoon. Fifteen saloons are affected by the order. These comprise all the saloons in Southington, it is said. Before prohibition, there were 11 saloons in town, but in the past few years four more have been set up. Some of the places have been ralded two or three times and convictions for liquor law violations followed the ar- rests of the proprietors. This move in Southington is an- other llnk in the chaln being forged | by State’s Attorney Hugh M. Alcorn from his office in Hartford. Re- cently he made ‘a statement that he would close every saloon in Hartford county and his agents have visited | several citles and towns already. At a recent meeting, the Southing- ton Businessmen’s Assoclation voted to suggest this course to the state's attorney and many of the members feel that the movement is a good one for the town.
