HEAVY BAIL FIXED IN ASSAULT CASE Gernsky Furnishes $1,500 But Zipko Goes to Jail in Default Joseph Gernsky, aged 21 of 53 Bexton street is out on $1500 bail and Jack Zipko aged 22, of 70 Tawlor street is in the county jall at Hartford in defauit of bail in a similar amount, following charges of indecent assauit while the victim, a 14-year-old girl, is in the New Britain General hospl!u” undergoing treatment. Several days ago the mother of the girl complained to the police depart- ment that her daughter was frequent- ing a place where liquor was being sold on Park View avenue. A police raid resulted in two arrests on charge of violating the liquor laws. The parties arrested will get: a hearing Thursday morning. Yesterday Gernsky and Zipko were arrested on a charge of assault.’ They were put to plea this morning and pleaded not guilty. They were held under $1500 ball for a hearing Satur- day when it is expected the girl will be able to leave the hospital. Zipko was unable to raise the bail and was gent to jail. Brilliant Fined $100 Tony Brilliant of Hartford who was arrested Sunday morning on Stanley street for driving an automobile while under the influence of liquor -and for not having a driver’s license or auto- mobile registration certificate in his possession and whose case was con- tinued unfil this morning., produced the certificate and license. He pleaded not gullty to being drunk, but was found guilty and fined $100. In the case of Joseph Kowalski and Bruno Poplawski continued from July 9, charged with theft of an automobile the state entered a nolle. Bartender Sent to Jail Walter Zacowski, proprietor, and Mike Rzgliszyow, bartender of a “restaurant”!at 11 Spring street, were found guilty of violating the 18th amendment ard the Volstead act. The proprietor, who was not in the res- taurant when it was raided by the police, was fined $200 and the bar- tender was fined $200 and sentenced to 15 days in jail. and was taken to jail this morning. The two men were arrested scveral days ago following a raid on the res- taurant by Patrolman O'Mara and John Stadler. The policemen found squantity of whiskey in a coffee pot behind the bar. They found the place still retained all its old saloon fiix- tures, Rzgliszyow, who was behind the bar, admitted selling liquor for 50 cents a drink.
