MAYOR STILL HOPES FOR BATHING POOL Will Snggest to Council That Pro- vision Be Made for Swimming When the common council meets ir special session, which will be within two weeks, Mayor A, M. Paonessa plans to bring before that body a sug- gestion that provision be made to fur- nish the youths of the city with a swimming pool, possibly in the form of an enclosed pool that may be used the entire year around. Mayor Paonessa Is a strong advo- cate of municipal pools. Last year he was responsible for the establishing of a place in the north end perk where thousands of children and many grown-ups enjoyed swims, but because | of sanitarv conaitions and inability to change the water frequently enough to make the pond desirable, the pool was abandoned near the end of the summer season. This year the mayor favored anoth- er location In the same park. Resi- dents of Belvidere offered opposition and the mayor called an open forum for a discussion of pools. The meet- ing was poorly attended and of the few present, a majority were opposed. Mayor Paonessa did not push this project further. However, the mayor is not inclined to consider the matter at an end and this morning he pointed out the many advantages of a municipal swimming pool. The executive will not be in a position to make any definite recom- mendations, and if the price is not prohibitive would Ilke to see an en- closed pool, but if this is not possible CHURCH REUNION PLARS | Northern and Sonthern Branches of Methodists May Soon Get Together If Projects Materialize, Cleveland, July 24.—A plan which it 18 believed will ultimately result in the re-unfon of the Northern and| Southern branches of the Methodist Episcopal church divided in 1844 over the question of slavery was ready for presentation to the joint commission on unification at the opening session of its four-day meeting here today. The plan was prepared by a joint committee of 16 the members of which are confident that it will be ac- cepted according to Bishop William F. Anderson of Cincinnati, chairman of the northern branch of the commit- tee. | On the other hand, Bishop John M. |Moore of Dallas, Tex., believes there {will be no unification until ‘*racial differences can be ironed out' which will probably be several years.
