e S TERSTmE——— The Tuesday meeting of the Wom- wn's olub of New Hritain, which was hel at the ¥, W, (" A, gymnasium, was one of the most interesting and entertaining that the elub members have enjoyed this season. Dramatics was the subjeet of the day, the pro. gram consisting of two one act plays, “The Florist Shop,” by Winifred Hawkridge, presented by members of the Womun's geolub, and “Hearts to Mend" by H& A. Overstreet, given by students of Emerson college, for Whose coming eredit is due Miss Ituth Basgsette, a senlor at the school. At the opening of the mecting, Miss Bassette, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Ruel B, Bassette, sang two numbers in her clear swoeet volee, aecompan 19d on the plano by Miss Parker. Miss Bassette is studyingy o- cal music in Roston, in addition to, her work at Lmerson, and the club members and thelr guests wore €x- tremely fortunate in hearing her un- usual voice on this oceasion, The first play, a scene in a florist #' an, wherein Maude, the properly grmpathetie clerk, helped fellow hu- mans. as a first consideration, and at-| tended to the business of the shop, as a second, was delightfully and ably played by Mrs, Eleanor Seq Hon-| ry. the boy about the plac highly scornful of Maude's romanti nature, was depieted most snecessflly by Mrs. Ldith Rogers. Miss May Tiooth gave a splendid characteriza- tion of Sloviky, the scheming proprie- | tor, who looked upon Maude's ready | Interest in customere as a great busi- ness asset until he fonnd had Leen sending orchids anonymously to an annual customer, at the expense of | the shop's advertising department, | Maude's orchids, however, acconi- plished their purpose, bringing the | fifteen year engagement of their re- | ciplent, Miss Wells, charmingly done by Mrs. Wilda Rickey, and Mr, Jack- son, acted cleverly by Miss Sally Mumason, to a happy termination. Turthermore, those same orchids brought business to the shop in the form of a wedding bouquet which re- established Maude in her employer's esteem.. The comedy was a '""“1 amusing one, and the characters es- pecially well played, show'ng. the «1»| ficient dircction of Mrs, Grace Wells, who trained them. | Between the plays Mrs, J. L. Davis| and Miss Florence Camp gave rl||lH‘ on the piano. The second play, | Frances | | ) she 'nll.u'(‘- to Mend,' 3 presented by three students m erson school of Oratory. It w an appealing little play whose char- acters were: Pierrot Plerrette, and| the Tins-to-Mend-Man. Miss * Ruth! PBassette was spiendid at Pierrot, the writer of songs; Miss Dorothy Sleep- er charming and graceful as his sweet wife, Plerrette, while Miss 'len Stapleton characterized the old Tins to-Mend-Man perfeetly. The presen- tation was a most finished one, as the three youthful students showed the study and’training which they have enjoyed at college. The scenery for both plays, tn the first a florist shop interior, and in ths second a home inferior ‘catried put in black and white. was plannad and !l_rv‘ ranged by Mrs, H. Kitkham, Mrs.| Hartwell Taylor and. Miss .Ir-nnio Wessel. The New Britain chapter, Hadassah, 8 comnleting arrangements = for ‘an entertainment and supper to he given Tiirgdov evening.
