WORLD WHEAT DECLINE Estimates, FExcluding Russia and Mexico, Show Material Falling Off Washington, Oct. 11,.—A decline in the estimate of world wheat produc- tion excluding that of Russia and Mexico for this year was announced today by the department of agricul- ture. The output was estimated in the department’'s compilation at 3,- 012,293,000 bushels, compared with the previous estimate this vear of 3,- 093,870,000 bushels and the revised estimate for the same countries last’ year of 3,049,074,000 The new estimate shows a cons! erable increase over last year in the United States from 704,893,000 bush- els to 810,128,000, but a decrease in France and Germany. After being struck by the tran Quirk was thrown into a ditch along side of the track containing about two feet of water, where he might have drowned had it not been for J. Balch- man, gate tender at the crossing, who pulled him out of the ditch. Quirk, who is employed by the Beaton company on Whiting street, was taking a short cut to his home, it is said. According to Balchman, the only witness to the accident, the man was walking along the middle of the tracks apparently unmindful of the approach of the light running train which was carrying passengers only. With the sudden stop of the train and other staccato blasts of its whistle, many passengers alighted to see what the trouble was Other Train Delayed. The train was in charge of Engin- eer J. C. Stearner of Hartford, and Conductor F. A. Barber of Spring- fleld, Mass., and left the local pas- senger depot at 5:50 o'clock preced- ing the Waterbur xpress. The lat- ter train was delayed for about 80 | minutes because of the accident. Quirk is a well known New Britaln resident and has been identified with baseball in this city for many years. About 30 years ago he was considered one of the best players in this section of the state and played on many fac- tory teams.
