As resident of the street said this morning, it is rapidly assuming the conaition where the dis- trict must act at once or Berlin will be without water. ¢ The water committee of the Worth- ington Fire district has met at times and figures filed with the clerk of the district show that it will cost approx- imately $60,000 to install water in Berlin. Of this amount only can be borrowed inasmuch as the legislature has passed a bill allowing the fire district to borrow an amount equal to five per cent of its grand list. The grand list for the Worthington district totals $630,000.° From estimates which have been made and received by the committee oply three and one-half miles of pipe will be laid in the Worthington o trict as compared with_eight miles in Kensington. Kensington however has niore territory to cover and has a and list close to $2,0( 00, Would Lower Price, It is also understood that the mem- bers of the Worthington water com- mittee feel that the Kensington d trict is asking too much money for its share in instailing a large pipe from Towers' corner in New Britain through Kensington to Jacobs' corner in Ber- lin An official of the district said this morning lin has been asked to pay $ wards the installing of that main. He was fined $150 and costs of $40. The ac- cused claimed he did not have any money to pay the fine, and as none of his friends came to his rescue, Pa- trolman E. W.
