Dried Lima Beans and Carrots One cup dried green limas, 1 me- dium sized onion, 1 small green pepper, 6 new carrots, 1 cup milk, 2 tablespoons butter, 1% tablespoons flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 1-§ teaspoon paprika, 4 thin slices bacon. Wash beans and let stand in cold water to cover for six hours. Drain and parboil in water to cover with one-fourth teaspoon soda. Drain fand rinse under cold running water. Put on to cook in boiling water to cover once and a half, Simmer slowly for two hours. If the beans are freshly dried they will cook more quickly than old beans. When the beans are almost done and the water has boiled away about half add the carrots scraped and cut in small dice, the onion sliced and the salt. Cook 20 minutes, un- covered. The water should be cooked away as much as possible without burning the vegetables. If the vegetables are not dry drain and use % cup of the liquor and % cup milk instead of one whole cup milk. Melt butter in a smooth sauce pan, stir in flour and slowly add milk and vegetable stock. Cook, stirring constantly until the sauce is thick and smooth. Put vegetables in a well buttered baking dish, pour over sauce and put the slices of bacon on top. Put in a hot,over fifteen minutes to cook the bacon. Then put under the flame in the oven to crusp. Scalloped Rice. Two cups boiled rice, 1 cup milk, 2 tablespoons butter, 1 cup finely chopped cheese, 2 eggs, 1 teaspoon salt, 1-8 teaspoon mustard, 1-4 tea- spoon paprika. Beat eggs till light and add milk. Mix salt, mustard and paprika and add to milk and egg mixture. Melt butter and add to rice. Combine mixtures and add cheese. Mix well and turn into a well buttered bak- ing dish. Bake half an hour in a moderate oven, | TQUEEN ELIZABETH ) I‘I \ Special Mecting Today. St. L.ouis, March 1‘.—Milton J. Mil- ler, president of the police commis- sioners was prepared to appear at a special meeting of the board of edu- cation this afternoon to submit proof of his charges that vice exists in Snl- dan High school, many students of which are children of wealthy west end residents, The special meeting was called aft- er publication of Mr. Miller's charge that he had evidence that girl stu- dents of this school had formed a secret organization which required of all applicants for membership that they must have violated the moral code. A similar organization existed for boys, Mr. Miller charged in his statement, which was made at a com- munity meeting. Mr. Miller said he had received number of telephone messages and written communications which Tas convinced him that his ‘“statcment was not strong enough." Members of the school board and heads of all high schools have de- manded that Mr. Miller Lring before them all facts on which he based his charges. These officials were unani- mous in their criticism of Mr. Miller's fallure to have brought this matter to their attention before niaking hi: charges at an bpen meeting.
