12 IRISH DELEGATEY FAVOR ITALIAN Cardinal Logue's 'Suit Want Roman lor qu_l Pope Rome, Jan. 8 -(By Assoclated Press,)—"It was an Lnglish ing Pontiff ( an 1\V) Ircland to England in the 12th cen- tury; therefore, we do not favor any but an Itallan for the throne of St Peter,” ared a member of the party of Cardinal Logue, primate of | Ireland, who arrived here yesterday “The incumbent of this high office must speak the Itallan language, be intimately acquainted with the deli- eate relationship between the Vatican and the Quirinal and understand the paychology of the Italian go nment and peopl “The Holy See incompasses all peo- ples and countries and must not iden- tify itself too closely with any gov ernment, for there would be danger that it would be used as an instru- ment for the achievement of a pur pose not in the interest of the whole world."” Although he had been travelling for five days, Cardinal Logue upon his arrival plunged into the many problems confronting the Sacred Col- lege. He conferred with Its n and foreign Cardinals, and later went to St. Peter's, where he spent some time in silent prayer in the crypt where Benedict XV is entombed, Despite his ears, the TIrish primate appeared fresh, buoyant and vigorous. On the way to Rome he stopped off at Genoa, where he of- ficlated at a solemn high m: in hon- or of the late Pontiff. When seen by an Associated Press correspondent’ at the Irish theological college, where he stays while in Rome, he asked to bhe excused from speaking for publica- tion. “I am no longer a young fellow like you,” he said. “Give me time to catch my breath and orient myself. I have been travelling five day and must have a little rest and time for meditation. You American journal- ists are as ubiquitous as grasshop- pers. 1 have been assailed by whole strings of you ever since I left Dublin. I cannot say anything for the mo- ment, but perhaps later.” spenk- who gave WASHED OFF SHIP, THEN BACK AGAIN Gordon Woodbury Has Unusual Ad- venture During Terrific Storm Off Cape Charles. Newport News, Jan. 31.—Gordon ‘Woodbury, former Assistant Secre- tary of the Navy, was swept over the railing of his yacht, Half Moon, forty miles off Cape Charles Friday night, but was returned by a wave to the ship, it was stated when the yacht, formerly the Germania, private yacht of former Emperor William of Ger- | many, was towed into OIld Point Comfort in a damaged condition by the Standard Oil tanker Japan Ar- row. Several members of the crew also were swept over the rail, it was add- ed, but all but one were rescued. The Japan Arrow came up a few minutes later and got a tow aboard. Mr. Woodbury, a member of the New York Yacht club, stated upon arrival at OIld Point Dock that his vessel ran into a hurricane about 10 a. m. Friday. The mainsail, compass, jibboom, a dingey and a lifehoat were swept away within a few seconds of each other. An enormous sea struck. the little craft some hours later, carrying Mr. Woodbury and the entire crew over- board. By clinging to the railing, the sidelashes and rudder, every one of the crew with the exception of Jahn Stolvig, quartermaster, finally managed to crawl aboard. “First Mate Beer did heroic work getting several of us back,” said Mr. Woodbury. After that experience, the crew, spme members badly bruised up and all hungry and half frozen, managed to cling fast to articles on deck until about 9:30 yesterday morning, when the Japan Arrow came by, giving the | Half Moon a line and taking the| fagged out crew aboard. All of the yachtsmen are comfortable at Old Point Comfort and the vessel, itself,| will go to dry dock for general re- pairs. This slight but important alteration seems to have been made in the fa- mous slogan spread broadcast by Dodge Brothers a few months ago. The change was brought about by the wost persistent epidemic of public curiosity since the time when Dodge Brothers first announced that they were about to market a car then re- fused to tell what kind of a car it was going to be. That was night years ago. Dodge Drothers’ latest bid for a complete and exclusive raonopoly on public attention, so far as it pertains to the automotive industry, came on January 10, when they announced that they were about to make a sub- stantial reduction in the price of their rs and then declined to tell what the prices would be. The mere fact that they wiil not tell until Iebruary 1, makes everyone want to know immediately. 4 The S. & F. Motor Sales Corp., the lodge Brothers' dealer here, was com- menting on the subject today, some- what on the order of the foregoing paragraphs, when a voice on the tele- phone inquired, “if there wasn't a chance to get a little advance infor- mation on those prices.” ‘There were good reasons, the voice said, why the “'tip” should be given out in this par- ticular case, “and it would be sure to turn out to your advantage.” Uut the dealer expressed his regrets and the voice reluctantly withdrew. “That is the way it has béen going ever since January 11," the dealer said. “I never appreciated what an intense interest there was in Dodge Prothers' motor cars until this occur- red. That fellow who just called probably wanted the information for some business reason, or maybe for sheer curios Perhaps he had a bet up with someone. Anyhow, he refused to give his name.
