Hartlord County Secretary Ad- dresses Weekly Mgeting ity M Elmer T, Thienes, secretary of the Y. M. C, A, In Hartford county, was the speaker at the weekly meeting of the High school club in one of the class-rooms at the Y. M. C. A, last evening. He took for his subject, “Iinding one's best self.' “In the seventh chapter of Matthew will be found the following passage: “The road that leads to life is both narrow and close and there are but few people who find it." “Some people think Jesus, when he sald that sentence, meant that one's life should be dull, unat- tractive, I do not believe that he had that ldea In mind, Some people are narrow; their Jjudgment {s blased. Christ's 1ife was one of fulfiiment and was well-rounded in all its phases, He did not say that life is narrow, He sald that the way to life is through narrow ways.'" Mr. Thienes sald that few people find the secret of life, Their life may be well-rounded on some sides, but there are still some aspects which are undiscovered, These people do not know themselves; they may have talent and be unaware of the fact. There are three phases of thought in that verse: IMirst, the way to life; second, the fact that few find it, and third, the way {is hard. Mr, Thienes then spoke of the def- that 348 MAIN ST. There are not many who have not lived completely on the physical side, | The way of life so far as our bodies | are concerned means keeping our bod- | {ies In the pink of condition, We may | feel that we are robust, but after| youth, people, as a rule, let go of that side of life, There Is another slde, Some do not find out about the mental sphere, A man once asked me (o state the big problems of youth. T told him that| the 'inabllity to think and to make| conclusions. of his own, are the big problems of a young fellow., The man who hasn't made original conclusions, the man who hasn't used his brain, who turns away from mental problems has not learned what it is to live, The boys of today need more challenging on the mental side of lite.”” Mr. Thienes then said that success is not merely a matter of a good per-| sonality. One must have brains in or- der to see clearly. One great fault of men today is that they are unable to solve the problems of today, to see through to the end, “In the affairg of men you must he able to produce or you will be left on the slde paths of life. I want to be where the battle is on, where big affairs arc being dis- | cussed,” he said. He then spoke of the spiritual vigor. ‘“The fellow doesn’'t know God, lacks the ability to third step, who ROBIN’S Dress Goods Store sacrifice and pay penalties.
