SENSATIONAL BLAZE AT ATIANTIC CITY “Fun House” of Rendezvons Park Desetroyed—Damage $160,000 Atlantic City, Sept. 7.—Fire causing a loss estimated at about $150,000 de- stroyed the ““fun house'’ of the Ren- dezvous Park, Atlantic City’s million and a half dollar amusement enter- prise, injured several firemen, apd threatened the entire so-called Bow- ery saction of the city, was discovered early today and was not extinguished tor several hours. The origin of the outbreak is un- known. According to Fire Chief Bar- nett today a slight blaze was discov- ered in the “fun house” about mid- night. This was apparently extinguish- ed without the aid of the fire depart- ment. But shortly before 2 o'clock a Jitney driver discovered a fresh out- break and turned in the alarm. By this time the roof and upper section of the “fun house” was a mass of flames and lighted the surroundings tor mties. Thousands of visitors and residents hurried from their homes and hotels in the belief that the central section of Atlantic City was in flames. It was not until well after 3 o'clock that the firemen controlled the blaze. There were two accidents. Assistant Chlet Krause, directing three other firemen atop of a ladder braced against the metal top of the entrance on the Pacific avenue side was buried with his men when the top gave way. The four men disappeared in a shower of sparks before the startled eyes of the hundreds of persons who had been attracted from their beds, the cabarets along the boardwalk and hotel district. As brother firemen made a rush for the spot, Chief Krause emerged with his men right behind him. They shook the embers from their shoulders and went back te the attack. ‘The second accident resulted when the flames had been almost subdued. Another section of the building fell in, catching a fireman said to be Wil- liam Fearcc and Fireman Johnny Brown, in the crash. Brown's condi- tion is reported grave at the city hos- pital.
