Wednesday—The MEW REGULATIONS CONCERNING RUM Wholesalers May Be Even Further Restricted Washington, March 7.—~Regulations urther restricting the gistribution of liquor now cenfined to manufacturers and wholesale druggists—have been drawn up and await the approval of the new administration. The regulations as drafted by prohi- bition officlals would limit manufac- turers to the sale of their own producs and forbid them to dispose of other manufactures containing alecohol. Such a step, in the opinion of prohi- bitlon officials, would restrict greatly sale of Intoxicants, and, by cutting the slight Jatitude now allowed amufacturers, ecoupled with the wlimination of lesale liquor idealer, practically would limit the distribution of liquor te wholesale druggists. Protests against the total elimina- tion of the wholesale liquor dealers, however, have been received by the treasury from representatives of the Catholic, Eplscopal and Lutheran enominations. These denominations have been accustomed, spokesmen for the churchment have explained, to purchase the wine umsed for sacra- mental purposes from ocertain dealers Who protided them with wine of a landard quality. With the elimination of the deal- re churchmen declared their source supply has been cut off. As a idy the prohibitforny authorities ive been asked to permit reputable toalers who have heen in business more than three years to contiune the distribution of sacramental wines A8 an exception te the general regu- lgflons now in force. The attitude of the new admin- istration toward the Dbreweries is awaited with interest by the present enforcement officials in view of the steady campaign Commissioner Kramer has been waging in various sections of the country against the manufacture of beer containing more than the legal amount of alcohol and the numerous seizures of prop- erty which have been made by the government in the last few months. Another question for the new heads of the department to decide is the matter of transshipment of Hquor via this country when shipped from one foreign country to another. On the protest of the British embas- sy the opinion rendered by the de- partment of jusice holding trans- shipment of liquor lllegal and vessels touching at American ports with liquor aboard to be violators of the prohibition laws has been returned for review Meanwhile both ques- tions remain in status quo. In connection with the shipping angle to the prohibition question some prohibition officials have sug- gosted the possibility of a new policy regarding liquor on American ships. Under the present law as defined by the department of justice prohibition follows American ships beyond the three mile limit and the sale of in- toxicants on them is prohibited. Etrong. protest against this interpre- tation, however, has been made hy shipping interests and Chairman Benson of the shipping board has in- formed the house that such a policy is iInjurious to the American mer- chant marine. For these reasons, officials asserted, the new adminis- tration will probably give careful consideration to the matter of di- vorcing lquor from ships. Scottsboro, Ala., March 7.—State authorities today were preparing to clean up the supposed headquarters district of the night rider bands which have been terrorizing northern Alabama communities. BETTER THAN CALOMEL Thousands Have Discovered . Edwards’ Olive Tablets area Harmless Substitute Dr. Edwards’ Olive Tablets—the sub- stitute for calomel—are a mild but sure laxative, and their effect on the liver is almost instantaneous. These little olive- colored tablets are the result of Dr. Edwards’ determination not to treat liver and bowel complaints with calomel. The pleasant little tablets do the good that calomel does, but have no bad after effects. They don’t injure the teeth like strong liquids or calomel. They take hold of the trouble and quickly correct it. Why cure the liver at the expense of the teeth? Calomel sometimes plays havoc with the gums. So do strong liquids. It is best not to take calomel. Let Dr. Edwards’ Olive Tablets take its place. Headaches, “dullness” and that lazy feeling come from constipation and a disordered liver.
