~ We Will Be Open Every EMMANUAL CHURGCH CORNERSTONE LAID Rev. Mr. Morris of Passaic, N. J., Principal Speaker The corner-stone of the new Em- ‘manuel Gospel church on Franklin Equare was laid yesterday afternoon with exercises fitting for the occasion. Particularly impressive was the rever- ent menton made by all of the speak- ors o the late Rev. Miiton 8. Ander- son, the dream of this new church which is now about to come & reality. * The exercises were in charge of tlenry C. Capen, who outlined the growth of the church since its organ- jzation, slightly more than four years. Kxplaining the rather plain lines of the new bullding, Me. Capen said that only Is this type of church architecture being favored about the country, also It \& not as expensive as other astyles and the church, as yet, cannot afford to be exiravagant. Rev. John L. Davis, pastor of the Methodist church, wpoke and extended his greetings and thowe of the parishioners of Lchurch. He expressed a willingness to aid in any way possible. Rov. Richard Starr, who has been gotive as a missionary In Afriea, was another speaker, and the senior dea- con of the church, B. 8. Atkinson, officiated at the laying of the corner- stone. Placed in the box which the ston econtains were, among other Mhbgns, Mr. Capen sald, & photograph of Rev. M. 8. Anderson; & photo- graph of the house that was removed to make room for the mew church; a newspaper clipping relating to the new church: coples of “The Gospel Message,” the church publication; a copy of the call for organization vf the new church, with the names of the wigners of the call; a list of the charter members of the church; list of names of the next state senate and house mbmbers, and other papers, etc. During the exercises hymns were pung by the choir and a sololst and an offering taken. The principal speaker of the day was Rev. Mr. Davis of the Methodist ehurch, who said “1 am glad that your church has an evangolistic spirit. The Methodist church has the same apirit. It is the evangelistic spirit that has made the Meothodist church what it is today. “You know, when 1 started out in this work, I intended to put out of the church everyome who was not perfect, but I soon learned that it I carried out that intention it would be but a short while before I would be very lonely inside the church, and perhaps then my wife might put me out. The church is not intended for only per- foct’ people. Only this morning, a young woman spoke to me about be- coming a member of the church and she was very much disturbed because she had gone all these years without joining. She had always had the feel- ing that she was not good enough to Join the church. She might live & _ong while and still have that feeling. The church helps make peopie good and that is why everyone should at- tend, because if people want to be fours, ® - m., 8 p. m. Well, about a year ago, I took a bath although I knew that sometime again I should be obliged to take another. 1 ate breakfast this morning, still I know that before I die I shall have to eat another. The thing to do is have re- vivals often. If a revival meeting is held for ten days or two weeks and the good it has done appears to be wearing off, then have another re- vival. Have revivals all the time. I was in a large store the other day and heard one business man tell an- other that he had lost a big deal be- cause the customer was allowed to cool off. ‘We've got to get them while they're hot,’ are the words the man used, yet I suppose if he heard me use the same words in church the next Sunday he would be surprised, but that is exactly what we must do. We must get them while they're hot. “You people must bring people to church, have revivals, keep after { them. Never mind whether revivals | are permanent. Lots of good things [ are not permanent and must be re- |'peated. You eat your breakfast to- day and you know you must eat an- other, so eat it. Don’t be like Mac- Swiney. I read a placard recently | concerning MacSwiney, and it said, | ‘MacSwiney was allve. He would not eat. He is dead,’ and it reminded me his * A NEW BRITAIN of some churglies.
