| HOLDING A HUSBAND || Adele Garrison’s New Phase of ¢ Revelations of a Wife The Ultimatum Mother Graham Of- fered Dicky. Dicky squirmed uncasily in his chair. “I don’t believe 1 did mention the date of possesson, did 17" he said. He was evidently sparring for time, but it did him no good, for his mother wis in a militant mood, which, had not been modified but rather accent- uited by Dicky's news of the proposed canoe trip from which the physician’s vordict had barred her. She wouid not have gone under ary eciroumstances, but, like many other elderly women, it frritated her exceedingly to think that ould not go if she had wisned to & - ' “No, you didn't, not so anybody could notice it. So out with it When is 1t?" ‘I made them give in on some extra time,” Dieky sald virtuously wanted it In & week, but 1 wouldn't hear of that of course. It would have cut short our stay down here.” A Hopeless Situation. “In a week!” his mother shrilled. “Have you gone out of your mind?" I sat silent, apprehensive. I sus- pected that this preposterous mention of a week was only made to distract our attention—"to let us down easy,” o Dieky was no doubt mentally phras- | g In% It before his revelation of a time which would be only & Mttle less start- I'nr I told you I made ‘em give us more | time,” he went on, defensively. “You don't think I'd stand for that, do | Let's hear what you did stand for,” sho retorted crisply. 1 dom’t want any more fooling, but the exact date when we've got to he out of there.”, “Well—May first,” Dicky replied, a Tit sulkily. that?” | 3 My mother-in-law and I looked at cuch other with utter despalr in our | faces. Any house- keoper in the world will understand our feelings, and we felt it would bo useloss to try to make any one else comprehend them, especially any one belonging to the masculine side of hu- manity, particularly Dicky. Mother Graham found her voice first. Indeed, I resoived, as I saw her face set in lines of battle, that 1 would leave the contest to her. For I real better than she that if the date of posse ¥sion already had been given as May first, it could not be changed. So I began to readjust my thoughts and preparedl to gird mywelf for the ardu- ous task 1 saw before me. Cohan's big mus- feal success that opened last night at Parsons’ theater, Hartford, is truly a wonderful show in the verdict of a capacity house that turned greet the players in their first per- formance at the Cauitol city. In view of the factthat the snappy little offer- ing has been drawing record breaking crowds in every city where it has been produced and critics have waxed en- thusiastical over the success of the show, much was expected by the first- nighters. In their expectations they ! were not in the least disappointed. The feature number was “The Love Nest,” the season’s most popular hit | which was originated in “Mary.” Bert Gardner (Jack) and Edna Pendleton (Mary) rendered the selection as a duet in a manner that captivated the house and called for a series of en- ' cores. The orchestration in all num- bers but particularly in “Love Nest™ was al that could be desired. Nine- teen musical numbers are interpersed through the lnes of the show, each one seemingly overtopping the previ- ous selection in popularity, The subordinate characters supporting Mr. Gardner and Miss Pendleton offer an array of stars that is seldom seen in Connecticut. Performances will be given daily for the remainder of the week, each eve- ning at 8:16 and on Wednesday and i Saturday afternoons. » “(Gets-It Tarw Drge S Them 0 o Thirty seconds after you touch tho eorn R ST o e the greatest magnanimity—“June 15th | ought to be about right.” JS'Why, mother! Time is worth more to him than money, and he smply has to have the house May first.” “I told you I wanted to hear nothing from you execept that one assurance. {/ntil you can give me that 1 am going to my room. In explanation of this un- usual procedure we wish to say that several months ago we announced a policy of lower prices to correspond with those of the whole- sale markets. We stated that it would be the earnest effort of this store to make our prices a daily barometer by ‘which the public could judge the state of manufactur- ing conditions. " Backward fall weather added to the market problems in many lines, prices have settled to new and lower levels. Again the < Big Store is acting, not waiting. It is DOING what perhaps most stores will be doing in a few months — in January at the earliest. It means that people who have been holding off may now buy necessary things freely and with confidence that these new lower prices are actual JANUARY PRICES. | | And Now That Lower Prices are Actually Here! We announce 30 days ahead of the usual time the launching of the Greatest Sale of the Year, our mammoth January Clear- ance Sale, offering more than a hundred thuosands of dollars’ worth of high grade de- pendable merchandise at actual January reductions.
