Farrell has been advised by | County Liquor Prosecutor J. W. Knox | that he intends to institute immediate | prosecutions in connection with the sale of liquor. This action will be | started in the state courts masmuch as the sale of liquor is now banned under the state law since the county commissioners have seen fit to rescind all liquor licenses. The action of the county commis- sloners, yesterday, reptesenting the clght counties in the state, in reject- | iIng all applications for renewal of | Hquor licenses immediately follows | the scries of alleged exposures of the wholesale violations of the prohibition laws in Hartford. This move of the county commissioners, Mr. Knox said, should make it plain to liquor sellers that, under the laws of the state, which provide that liguor sales with- out a license are illegal, they are now liable. to immediate prosecution. “I shall certainly prosecute any vio- lations at once,” Mr. Knox said, add- ing that he has requested the police to notify him of all arrests for liquor selllg Prosecutor George H. Day intends to refer to Mr. Knox any liquor cases which are brought before the police courts. Mr. Day said that State's At- torney Hugh M. Alcorn has held that once the license applications are re- Jected, mmediate action can be taken on liqouor violations in the state “ourts. Prior to this action by the county commissioners, which makes it plain that sales are Infringements of the state statutes liquor sellers were protected by the fact that they had made application Andrew Steele of Fast . Windsor HIll, county commissioner, said last evening that twenty out of the twen- ty-four commissioners representing the cigit couties attended yesterday's meeting'and the vote for rejection of licenses was unanimous. “The action was taken in response to a number of requests,” Mr. Steele #ald. “Personally, I doubt whother it will have any result as the cuthori- ties have already had the power to prosecute violations under the federal laws" Mr, Stecle added that the com- missioners had taken action yesterday merely in order to eliminate any be lief that they were hampering liquor enforcement, The statement by the liquor prose- cutor indicates that Hartford is at last to see a clean-up of places which have been violating the prohibition laws. Prosecutions are being antici- pated with interest in view of the wide open selling in various places in this city, while evidence was in the hands of the federal department, which has had the power to take action.
