Plumbing Inspector P. J. Tormay has requested that a statement be made relative to comment made at last night’'s council meeting at which he says F. H. Alford declared the in- spector had told the building inspec- plumbing in the city building, and later reduced this estimate to $100. Inspector Tormay not only says there made any such statement to the build- ing inspector but also that a detailed report on the matter shows him to have advised the health department that $700 would make the necessary repairs. PLANTING TURNIPS Younz Men Employes of New Britain | Machine Ask for Use of Land for Gardens. Several young men employed by the New Britain Machine company have petitioned for use of a piece of Ian% owned by the firm on the Ber- | lin Branch. The young men have started a “Turnip Club” intending to become agriculturists and raise a large number of turnips on the land sought. It is understood that an agree- ment has been reached whereby the | ambitious “farmers” may start work at once. Hartford Man Bringé Suit Against Jitneur As a result of a suit for $450 brought by Frank Sadic of Hartford, a jitney buss owned by George Sa- hadi was attached by Constable George A. Stark last evening. The plaintiff alleges that the defendant owes him wages. The writ is re- ' turnable before the city court the first Monday in August. TO RETURN HOME SOON. Edward Eichstaedt, attached to the high commission of the United States embassy at Constantinople, sta- tioned on board the U. S. S. Galves- ton, has sent word to his father, Councilman Albert F.
