VETERANS’ TRIBUTE TO HICKS Seventh Connecticut Volunteers, atg Reunion, Pass Resolutions on Formecr Local G. A, R. Man. The Seventh Connecticut Volunteers yesterday for their annual Hartford and passed the following resolutions on the death of the late Major Ira E. Hicks: “Assembled in annual reunion, as privileged once more, it is not with- out feelings of mingled sadness that we wait and listen for the foot-fall and cheerful salutation of our late comrade, Capt. Ira K. Hicks, who died at his home in New Britain, March 28th of the present year. “Though with hearts steeled by long experience to the stern command to ‘“Close up''! and so cover the gaps in our advancing ranks, the falling out of one today from the depleted reserves of the old 7th Connecticut Volunteers, occasions feelings of in- expressible sorrow. “Comrade Hicks in no way ignored the fact of a common ancestry with those of the embattled hosts of our country baring their boroms to the pitiless storm of death made neces- sary by the rebellion cf 1861. By close application to business he had indexed capacity and possibilities for usefulness in the industrial world when there came that calamitous call to arms awakening the nation to the imminence of a life and death struggle, “‘that government of the people, by the people und for the people’'—the heritage lequeathed us at Bunker Hill and openly proclaimed by Declaration of independence, “should not perish from off the earth.” “Enlisting in Co. I, Seventh regi- ment, Connecticut Volunteers, Sept. 9th, 1861, he was promoted to a first lieutenancy, wounded in our charge on Fort Lamar, at Secessionville, S. C., June 16, 1862; he was afterward, July 11, 1863, made acting adjutant of our four companies in the world renowned assault on Fort Wagner. He subsequently joined in the attack on Richmond as aid to Gen. Birney, commanding the Tenth army corps. Afterward promoted to a captaincy of infantry, failing health made it neces- sary for him to resign from the serv- ice and he was mustered out Decem- ber 4, 1864. “In all his subsequent relations as a citizen, in business and social rela- tions; as an official of the G. A. R, local, state and national; as post- master for upwards of twenty years; as vestryman in the church of which he was.a member. and in the most sacred of all relations, that of hus- band and father, he won for himself the “well done” of faithful and af- fectionate service. “‘As a token of our appreciation, af- fection and esteem for his manly met re- union in worth, and as an expression of sym pathy for his bereaved family, it moved that a copy of this obitua be furnished our secretary for pe manent record, and a like copy be forwarded to Mrs. Ira B. Hi the widow of our late comrade. U. 8. experts have so devised bee- hives that care of the young bees devolves on fewer ‘nurses’ and more bees are released to make honey. DRINK HOT WATER IF YOU DESIRE A ROSY COMPLEXION Says we can't help but look better and feel better after an Inside bath, e To look one’s best and feel one’s best is to enjoy an inside bath each morning to flush from the system the previous day’s waste, sour fermenta- tions and poisonous toxins before it is absorbed into the blood. Just as coal, when it burns, leaves behind a certain amount of incombustible material in the form of as so the food and drink taken e day leave in the allmentary organs a certain amount of indigestible material, which if not eliminated, form toxins and poisons which are then sucked into the blood through the very ducts which are in- tended to suck in only nourishment to sustain the boady. If you want to see the glow of healthy bloom in your cheeks, to see your skin get clearer and clearer, you told to drink every morning upon ing, a glass of hot water with a teaspoonful of limestone phosphate in it, which is a harmless means of wash- ing the waste material and toxins from the stomach, liver, kidneys and bowels, thus cleansing, sweetening and purifying the entire ailmentary tract, before putting more food into the stomach. Men and women with sallow skins, liver spots, pimples or pallid com- plexion, also those who wake up with a coated tongue, bad taste, nasty breath, others who are bothered with headaches, bilious spells, acid stomach or constipation should begin this phos- phated hot water drinking and are assured of very pronounced results in one or two weeks. A quarter pound of limestone phos- phate costs very little at the drug store but is sufficient to demonstrate that just as soap and hot water cleanses, purifies and freshens the skin on the outside, so hot water and limestone phosphate act on the inside organs. We must always consider that internal sanitation is vastly more im- portant than outside cleanliness, be- cause the skin pores do not absorb impurities into the blood, while the bowel pores do.
