U..5. T CONSTRUCT IMMENSE. HOSPITAL Soldiers Back From France Will Get Medical Treatment Hepkinsville, Ky. Dee. 31.—That the governmental project to conmstruct the oentral hospital of the War Risk Bureau near Dawson Springs is of vast magnitude is not genarally understood by the people of this re- glon so quietly have the plans been worked out. In addition to a sanatorium of $i,- 500,000 initial cost, there ‘will be a government park which may embrace s much as ten thousand acres, with scenic beauties unrivalled. hese in- clude the Cliffs of Dawson, famous as one of Kentucky's beauty spots. one . N. V. Perry, who is chief architect of ‘the Public Health Service, and | Theodore R. Troendle, of Hopkins- ville, who has spent months at Wash- ington to interest officials in the ad- vantages of Dawson, will meet with bustness men and Caldwell counties and they will selept the site of the big institution. More then two months ago Secre- tagy of the Treasury McAdoo definite- 1y stated to the House Grounds and | Bulldings Committee that the War Rigk Bureau had selected Dawson as the site of the central hospital and ths first of the kind built in America 1t is the outgrowth of the War Risk | Bureau, itself a new thing, and is not under the supervision of the War De partment as generally supposed. In fact,Ahose who are to be undar treat- | ment in the hospital will be dis- <harged soldiers who are receiving benefits under the terms of their gov- ernmant insurance. These policies, which are issued up to $10,000, provide for medical and hospital treatment for diseases result- ing ffem army Colonel Charles E. or maval service. Banks senior o.edi- cal officer, is at the head of this de- partment. He visited Dawson last July, and it was upon his recommend- ation that the War Risk Bureau made its decision. An added feature will be vocational training in connection with the hospi- tal. Some time ago an appropriation of $160,000,000 was made and the Ppolicy was adopted to build a voca- tiopal institution for soldiers and sailors wherever the War Risk Bu- reay wstablished a sanatorium. Furthermore, there is to be a sol- diers’ home for the permanent wards of the government, and this will like- wise de located in Dawson Park. Benator Martin, of Kentucky, at the request of Surgeon General Rupert of Hopkins, Christian | | Blue, has charge of the legislation af- fecting the project There seems to be no doubt that Congress will promptly sanction the matter. A wrong impression has been created by a press report that the government was to locate a tubercu- losis hospital at Dawson Springs. \lready the Dawson Springs Busi- ness Men's Association has raised $20,000 to purchase the first 1,000 acres required by the government. The Dawson committee of I. N. Day, Will P. Scott, Lynch and Fred Besher. It is proposed that the sacond 1,000 acres be purchased by the citizens of Christian county, and a committee, of hich H. M | assured Mr [ William no difficulty in raising $15,000, which ts all that will be needed. | Evansville merchants who are mem- bers of the Evansville Chamber of | Commerce say they will subscribe | $20,000 for the purchase of another 1,000 acres, extending in the direction needed. Dawson is near both the country's | Beographical center and the center of | population. The ridge lying along the | Hopkinsvilie-Dawson Toad which is to be the site of the institution, is 865 feet ahove the sea lavel, and the average temperature is sixty-six de grees. The letter which is signed by Dr. William T Hornaday, reads: “Reports are rife that with the ending of the war there is to be an attempt made to force upon our Am- crican youth the language of the peo- ple whose hands are stained with the blood of their fathers The German language has been used as a weapon directed at the heart of America by German propagandists. It is the opinion of many of our promineat educators that German is not an essential in any course of study, and it is to be hoped that our American youth will not permit its being forced upon them for any rea- and brothers. | is composed | Frankel is chairman, has | Troendle that it will have | | | of that city.
