Plans have been the Swedish Lutheran church to dedicate a gold star on made at the church flag next Sunday afternoon of Corporal Arthur J. lost his life at the prey a month ago and his mother, Mrs. David Paulson, of Smith street, has been invited to place the signi- ficant gold star on the flag among the fleld of almost 100. Governor Holcomb has been asked to preside at the meeting and among the speakers will be Mayor G. A. Quigley and Senator Lenroot of Wis- consin. Those in charge of the me- morial services are planning to charge a nominal admission fee and to divide the proceeds between Red Cross and the Orphanage Avon, Mass. service in honor Paulson battle of Seiche- who at SEEK GOVT. At the meeting of the local Red Men last evening a report on the re- cent state convention in New Haven was made. It was reported that there are 563 Red Men from this state in the service, this figure being about 10 per cent. of the state membership. It marked the close of the scason of in Tpon this festival t sheaves of the various kinds ain grown in Palestine were of- | ferea as Thanksgiving sacrifices ta the Lord. On this festival, as on Pass- Lover and Tabernacle: the people would pilgrim to Jerusalem in vast numbers, from all 'ts of Palestine, {and even from remote corners of the globe, to participate in the joyous fes- i tal warship at the great Temple. It has been estimated t at times up- ward of a miilion pilgrims assembled in Jerusalem upon these occasions In post-biblical times the festival | was celebrated also as the anniversary of the giving of the Ten Command- ments ta Israel on Mt. Sinai and. the solemnization of the eternal covenant between God and Israel, as described in Exodus 19 and 20. In commemora- tion of thisevent Reform Judaism has fixed the confirmation of its children upon this day, that they, too, may enter into solemn covenant with their God, even as their fathers did over three thousand years ago. The confirmation exercises them- | selves are most impressive. The chil- dren, simply gowned, the girls in vir- gin white, ascend the altar to partici- pate in the worship of the day. The most important part of the service is the reading in Hebrew by one or more of the children, from the sacred scroll ! of the law. The portion of Exodus 19 and 20, narrating the giving of the Ten { Commandments is read. Thereupon confirmants recite together the Commandants and the fundamen- ticles of faith of Judaism which they accept.
