Frank H. Alford of the War Bureau committee, as soon as the .members had settled upon a definita plan to follow, notified the State Council of Defense of its intention and today he received a circular let- ter from the council in which this same plan is recommended, with a few changes, for the entire state. In part, the outline as suggested by the local men and adopted by the State Council of Defense, is as follows: Establishment of a war bureau, with one permanent official, empow- | ered and designed to supervise all ac- tivitles arising from the existence of | a state of war. Bach War Bureau should be closely allied to the town or city government and should be provided by that gov- ernment with the necessary funds. Similarly, each War Bureau should he allied with the State Council of Defense, to act as the local representa- tive of that council and replacing the present town committees. The executive committee of each War Bureau should include a repre- sentative of the city government, the chamber of commerce, the Red Cross and the town committee of the State Counci] of Defensé, as well as any other organizations engaged in war or public service work. Sub committees should be named ‘0 devote considerable time to special work. The finance committee should supervise the collection of funds for A1 purposes connected with the war with the exception of the Red Cross, Y. M. C. A, etc. No person should be permitted to collect any money ex- -ept with a license from the War Bu- -cau. It should also be the duty of the finance committee to take over and administer as far as possible all specific community funds, such us to- bacco and athletic funds. The relief 2ommittee should do that work which its name implieg in order to make it possible to offer free medical, legal and other aid when necessary to the familles and dependents of soldiers. 1t should likewise have chavge of pro- viding the soldiers abroad with any wmd all necessities or possible luxuries aot provided by the government. The ommittee on information and re- search should com:pile an accurate record of all names of the boys in the service of the government. Tt should also co-operate with the fam- ilies of soldiers in securing their ad- dresses and sending them mail or presents. In short, it should be the bureau of information as to all mat- ters having to do with the soldie and sailors at home and abroad. An- other committee, one on labor, should be especially charged of providing dependents and relat of soldiers with employment, e: pecially the women who may need it. CONGRATULATIONS!
