Beginning Friday, October 19, the weekly church sewing ‘meetings will ‘be held at St. Mark’s church, on West Main street, instead of at the Meth- odist church as heretofore. It has been the desire of the Red Cross and Mayor Quigley to furnish sweaters for the drafted army, and this has been made possible by the co-operation aof the American Hosiery company, which, although already cutting a large number of garments for the Red Cross, is willing to take on the added labor of knitting .sweat- ers which will be finished by the women in the Red Cross rooms. It is hoped that in this way enough sweaters can be secured for every New Britain man at the encampment at Ayer. Anyone wishing to help in this useful work can do so by going to the Red Cross rooms any day next week and giving an hour or two of their time. E. 8. OCTOBER BRIDES TO CLOSE CORBIN AVENUE. As an aftermath of the building of an overhead bridge several months ago by the board of public works, by which the dangerous crossing on Cor- bin avenue was eliminated, an addi. tional problem has been encountered by the board. At a hearing to be held Tuesday night it is expected that all those concerned will have the prob- lem disposed of by them in a satis. factory manner. The proposition is to close the old Corbin avenue road, which is no longer being used, provid- ed the property owners agree with this plan. At the meeting on Tues- day night, a hearing will be given on the proposed street lines on Stanley street between East Main street and the railroad crossing on both sides.
