Welch was quite badly battered dur- ing: the melee and he was a much subdued individual after disposition of his casc had been made by Justice A. H. Cndell yesterday. Welch was one of the most unruly prisoners with whom local officers have had to deal in a long time. He created a disturbance at the center Saturday night. His language was so foul that a complaint was made to the constables and he was placed under arrest. He defied the officers to take him to the lockup and it required the combined efforts of two policeman, aided by clubs, twisters and other paraphernalia to get him to the town building. Before he was arraigned in {ourt Welch boasted that Constable Maring ‘would never act as his escort on a trip to jail and the officer sought informa. tion from Justice Condell as to what measures he could resort to in case the accused refused to accompany Hm to Hartford voluntarily, a sen- tence of thirty days in addition to a $7 fine having been imposed.
