- OUTGREW HER STRENSTH A fine, tall daughter, the pride of her parents, may have grown too fast. If, with her height, she is calm, even- tempered, ro8Y, with bright eyes and aspringing footstep, you have nothing 0 fear for your girl. - But this rapid growth is sometimes gained at the ex- pense of her strength. Wayward tem- + per, a constant hunger for sweets, head- aches, and a pain im the back and side after a little healthy exertion mean that instead of entering womanhood smoothly and without disturbance, as she should, she is paying already "the penalty of thin blood. Watch for meods. Look, after she has climbed a )nll or run upm\nu for breathlessness, “*a’ color that comes and goes, and a heart that beats fast and painfully. These mean anemia, and an anemic irl will never make & healthy, bloom- ng woman. She is bloodless. Let her have Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills for Pale People. Soon a better appetite, bright eyes, calm temper and fresher color in lips and cheeks will tell you she is mak- ing new blood. It may be that the men in | the department of the embassy that issues these letters were not familiar | | with the Swedish law. Quite apart, | i however, from the question of whether | they knew or should have given warn- | ing, American shippers should under- | stand that letters of assurance are in | no way a guaranty that the goods ' covered are wanted by or can enter | Russia, or that they can meass Sweden. A typical case is that of the Tepre- sentative of certain automobile firms in America, who came to Stockholm with some motor trucks intended for Russia, despite the fact that it is nearly two years since the Swedish Parliaent enacted a law refusing transit to motor vehicles in any and all circumstances. This law, enacted on January 9, 1915, prohibits abso- utely and unqualifiedly the transit ! through Sweden to Russia of arms or parts thereof, ammunition, war ma- terial not specially mentioned, lead in all forms and motor vehicles of any kind. German submarines have re- cently beensharrying shipping in the Gulf of Bothuia to such an extent that it has been seriously restricted. The result has naturally been accumula- tion of goods in Swedish ports on the ®ulf. The freezing up of the Gulf of Bothnia, which may come now at any time, will close all water connection between Sweden and Finnish porta until next Apr There will remain then only the overland route via Hapa- randa and Tornea. This is a single track road, both in Sweden and in Finland, there is anything but a sur- plus of locomotjves and other rolling stock on the SWedish end., and the route’s transportation facilities are in general so limited that delays of weeks and even of months are possible in the case of goods not wanted with great urgency. | Archangel will soon be icebound, event it is and has been of little importance for shippers de- siring to avoid the Scandinavian route, fnasmuch as the transportation facili- ties there have hardly more than| sufficed to handle government impor-: tations of materials needed for the conduct of the war. It is reported unofficially that the completion of the new railway from Mourma to Axelan- dravsk may be expected soon, but too optimistic hopes must not be based on the report. A neglect to obtain up-to-date information about any and all of these { details may—probably will—mean vexatious delays and loss of profits or even mare than profits, The so-called “Aktiebolaget (stock company) Transito,” a company formed in Stockholm with the consent of the British government to supervise transit of goods for Russia, passesses at all times complete information con- cerning all conditions mentioned. This information will be placed at the disposition of the American consulate- general in Steckholm upon request from him on behalf of an intending shipper. Another available source of information is the state department at Washington. Regardless of the difficulties of get- ting goods into Russia, all American business men returning from that country are enthusiastic over the pos- sibilities there. Not only are Ameri- can goods highly regarded, but there is also, according to the testimony of several returned merchants, much dis- | satisfaction over many ¢ s of goods with which the Js ese have been fleoding the Tus market. The same man spoke admiringly of | the manner in which English mer- chants are graspipg the opportunities offered. L i “Wherever T went,” he said, “T saw evidences of the excellence of English preparation to get and hold the Rus- sian trade after the war. The English tradesman has waked up.
