Laubin acting as ronductor and Miss Ruth Bennett at the piano, the chorus which was com- pyised of ninety-six members was truly wonderful, and as the harmon- lous blending of the well trained vofces filled the hall there was gener- ous applause by the appreciative aud- ience, cncores being repeatedly called Bétsy Lano Shepherd, so- prano, and Robert Maitland, baritone, were very much in evidence. Her marvelous control of ‘the high notes was a revelation and the manner in which she ripples up ales and down again kept the squdience spellbound, Mr. Maitland, a typical British art- ist® showed that his art is neutral when he inclnded a number of the works of German composers in his program. Nor was he weaker when injecting the military spirit into “Die Beiden Grenadiere” than when sing- #g airs being hummed by his own cotintrymen on the other side of the Atlant Mr. Maitland’s program was well balanced, the light and the serfous being in egual proportion. His rendition of “#ar of Eve” pro- vided his audience with one of the most charming recollections of. its * musical experiences. He also scored heavily by his dramatic rendition of - %1t 1s Enough” and the climax was 7’(‘a,pped with his last number of the night “The Minstrel Boy." While great praise is due the New York artists for their delightful eve- wins, the work of New Britain’s own chorus should not be forgotten. For “Tiz” Puts Joy in ! New Britain society showed its ap- preciation of the efforts of the society by attending in large numbers. When the curtain rose there was hardly a vacant chair in the building, a glow- ing tribute to those who have made such sacrifices in order to provide their own city with high class enter- tainment. During the evening Mme.
