POLICEMAN HAS A BUSY NIGHT OF IT Corrals Straying Ducks, Modern Diogenes and Lost Horse v, in A Seven ar the street for breach made of pbeace were on Broad early this morning by seph Kennedy, the prisoners proving to be the most difficult to capture and handle of any encountered by the i Policeman Jo- n authorities in many days. Policeman patroling his beat a before dayvlight when his attention was attracted by strange sounds ahead of him and he noted several forms moving along close to the sidewalk. Visions of an early morning attack by Mexicans, as por- trayed by the movies, arose and he silently closed in. With hoarse quacks of melodramic ‘“‘we are dis- covered” the wanderers attempted to escape. Policeman Kennedy execut- ed a flank movement in double quick time, charged and then counter charged. He was successful and soon seven full grown ducks were jailed in a nearby barn awaiting an owner. i"H would be a shame to have some- one minus a good Thanksgiving din- ner,” commented their captor. This experience came soon another of somewhat unusual cter. Tt was after midnight when Kennedy, this time on East Main street, noted two men approaching, one of them carrying a red lantern that bobbed along uncertainly as its bear- er navigated his way towards home with difficulty. After ascertaining that it was not a “movie” rehearsal for Diogenes, Kennedy approached and questioned the men. Inquiry showed that the one with the lantern had left a saloon nearby at closing time considerably the worse for his | visit. He soon found that he had for- gotten to stock up with matches so as to be able to smoke on his ws home. Necessity was the mother of invention and the red lantern was ap- propriated from E; Main and Main street, where it was placed to warn travelers that repairs are being made. The bearer was joyfui over the pros- pect of being able to have as many smokes as he desired on his way home. Policeman Kennedy did not appreciate the convenience and made the bearer march back to the corner and leave the lantern at the place from whence it had been taken. It was less than half an hour pre- viously that Kennedy found a gray horse wandering almlessly along East Main street. Tt was taken to White's stables and headquarters notified. Soon afterwards there was a com. plaint from Fredman's bakery at 8¢ Hartford avenue that a horse haa mysteriously disappeared. Kennedy’s capture was found to be the animal wanted and it was restored its owner, Kennedy was 5| short time is after char- to Piles Cured in 6 to 14 Days, Druggists refund money it @ PAZO OINTMENT fails to cure Itching Blind, Bleeding or Protruding Piley, First application gives reliof. 50, —advt. | § AUTO DRIVER As a result of an investigation by Detective J.
