An enthusiastic audience greeted this vehicle of fun and melody. The plot,—well, the least said about that the better. It did succeed, how- ever, in finding its way through three acts popping up every now and then after a song or a dance. The singing and the dancing were the real treats of the show. And there was never a i dearth of these two very great essen- tials. Miss Lorrainc Lester, 1ho played the dream girl, is possessed of a remarkably sweet voice, anq a | very charming personality. She found no difficulty in any of her numbers. The young fellow who takes the place left vacant by Joseph Santley wins fa- vor, too. Robert Adams is a young musical comedy acquisition who will be heard from later on. His dancing has rarely ever been surpassed on the Lyceum boards, those same old timers that have swung under the weight of many nimble feet. Nor is he the only dancer in the show that must neeq he mentioned. There are thoss two dainty Iittle misses, Mae Finch and Alice Richey, who won numerous en- cores hy their tripping of the light fantastic. If a kindly reviewer may be allowed Just the least bit of freedom, ‘“When | Dreams Come True” is not so much | musical comedy as it is comedy, and | mirth, and music, and vaudeviile. The | latter appelation will cover a greater portion of the show. No big time cir- | cuit ever offered a better two hour’s entertainment of various numbers. From the moment that Miss Viola Scott and her companion, that wonder- fully eccentric comedian, Harlan Briggs, start the song, “It's Great to be a Wonderful Detective,” the fun is on. Nor does it let up until away in the third act when the funniest “movie” burlesque seen in a long time is staged. In this latter number there are six who take part: Miss Helen Freeburn, Miss Connie Mac, Miss Car- men Ercelle, and the Messrs. Adams, Butler and Briggs. The song 1s, “Come Along to the Movies,” and ti tette shows just what happens after the “movies” begin. It is a scream. Whether this is her real name or whether she has borrowed it from the famous leader of the old time world | champlons, Miss Connie Mac, more | than lives up to expectations. sShe is | the one to whom falls the ridiculously funny part, Mathilda, the country cousin from Peru, Indiaga, who has ] a “black-on-white.” Playing opposite | Miss Mac, Harlan Briggs is. enabled | to augment further the comedy situa- tions. Between these two the laughs | are fairly well distributed. | Miss Carmen Ercelle, before the | show was over, demonstrated that she | | is one of the greatest novelty violin- | ists on the stage. Her numbers were | very well received and she responded | to numerous encores. Others in the | show were: Arthur , Wilson, Walter | Prescott, George Henderson, Margaret | Wills, Eva Ferris, Dixle McNeil, Jean | Gilbert, Anna Little, Arthur Williams, | Bthel Barclay, F. C. Palmer, Helen | Burns, Hazel Marron, Roy C. Butler, | Bvelyn Gibson, Laura Virginia, Evelyn | Brokaw, Jack Forbes, Frank Todd, Louis Wesner, Ralph Jordan, Howard O’Donnell and Harry Archer.
