Detroit, Mich, Jan. 14.—Fire early | today in a tunnel of the Edison TI- luminating company, the main artery | of its downtown plant, caused several underground explosions, principally | on State street, brought about a panic in a crowded street car and cut off power, light and heat in many of Detroit’s largest hotels, office buildings and stores. The mercury registered seven degrees above zero. For ceveral hours after the accident there was no heat and it was said there would probably be no power and light before late in the day.
