Springfield, Mass., July 16—Fifteen thousand dollars worth of building materials and four freight cars were destroyed by fire and a terrific gase- line explosion in the yard of the Fi Rubber company at Chicopee Fals late yesterday. ‘The fire, of unknown origin, start- ed in a long storage shed, and ignited a fifty gallon tank of gasgline. The resulting ~ concussion wrecked the burning shed, rocked nearby machin-, i'ery and threw firemen and a few of the nearest spectators to the ground. Hundreds of windows 'were smashed in the old building of the rubber com- pany, fifty yards from the fire, and a half dozen panes of glass in resi- dences nearby were broken. One Italian workman and four factory girls were cut by flying glass. The heavy detonation and spectacu- Jar fire, which ' followed excited Springfield, Holyoke and other cities and towns within a radius of fifteen miles by reports.of a bBomb outrage. George A.
