TREE PLANTING PLANS, Commission Decides to Ask Advice of State and Federal Experts. New Britain’s - first systematic ef- fort to preserve its trees and to plant new ones was made last night when the forestry commission met in Mayor Quigley’s office. W. B. Rossberg was elected chairman and Albert N. Volz was elected secretary. Mayor Quigley outlined what he believes a forestry .commission should do. It should care for what . trees there are now in the city and should plant others in a systematic!manner. New trees should be selected with care and should be set out where they will be of most benefit to the public and least likely to interfere with im- provements. Others on the pressed similar views and it was de- cided to:seek the advice of the 'state and federal authorities on:forestry. “The ‘commission - will meet Thursday || evenings in the mayor’'s office. He says he saw it but does not want to spend all ‘his time speaking from the floor. ‘Martha chapter, O. E. S, held a pleasant whist yesterday dfternoon and last evening enjoyed a supper. Councilman O. F. Curtis does not share with Mayor George A. Quig- ley the opinion that quarterly reports from commissions would be unwise becausé of the extra expense. The mayor has talked the proposition over with City Engineer Hall, who states that it would require an additional expense of $2,000 in the board of public works alone because of extra clerk hire. “They’d better not interfere or I'll get up in the council and make 'em sick,” sald Mr. Curtis today in re- | ply to the mayor's objectians.
