Interest in the now famous Shan- manslaughter case, which has been dormant since the trial of the local physician, was post- poned until the June term of the su- perior court, is mow revived by the discovery of the famous ‘“Brother Dan,” to whom the unfortunate girl referred before her death on Decem- bér 6 in the lonely Renaldi home in Knsington following an illegal opera- tion alleged to have been performed by Dr. Mangini. The mysterious man is Daniel Flah- erty, formerly an efficlency expert at i Poquonock, and sald to have been the fiance of the girl. At present Flaherty is recovering from nervous prostration at a Poughkeepsie, N. Y., sanitarium. He has been interviewed by State’s Attorney Alcorn, it is said, and is said to have confessed all he knew of the case. The report is that he confessed to having spent the Tuesday night previous to the girl’s death in her company at the Dillon Court hotel in Hartford registered as man and wife. He is said to have planned to marry her, He has explained that he did not attend her funeral or send flowers be- cause he was advised not to by coun- sel. Although he knew whatever he said might be used against him, it is sald that Flaherty has told the state’s at- torney that he visited Dr. Mangini with the girl, but did not contribute towards the expense of an operation or did not pay for her board in Ken- sington. He will be one of the state’'s most important witnesses at the trial next June. Best Butter 34c 1b, Russell Bros.— advt.
