Byt this does not mean that the employes will be deprived of ' their holiday. It is generally believed that individually they will be given days off to make up_for it. Proyision also may be made. for workers in.these stores and businesses where a half holiday ' will be - the rule. This last applies to the clerks and letter carriers in..the post office. Assistant Postmaster Edward J. Munson has made tentative plans to give the men at least a part of the ' day off but much will depend upon the amount of business done during the The | next twenty-four hours whether these ! planis can be worked out. Business in the post office at Easter is greater by far than the general public realizes and is'exceeded only by the rush at Christmas. This necessitates a large amount of extra work in the parcel post division. It is probable that the post office will be closed about noon on Good Friday to the public, and open for an hour about five o'clock, for the benefit of those who have transacted business during the day and have parcels and first class matter to send out. Forest officers in Washington and Oregon plan to discontinue the use of barbed wire on their forests. This will affect their own pastures and pub- lic drift fences. They say barbed wire has no advantage over smooth wire, that it injures stock, and that it is more likely to be borne down bY soft snow. Stockmen on the Ochoco forest, in Oregon, recently constructed drift fences of smooth wire, though with some misgivings; now they say they will never use barbed wire again.
