Edwards Ohlinger says: : “I didn’'t mention my trip to Lakeland, but not because I didn't ‘have a grand time. Y hesitate to y -all there is to say about that trip, because it might sound self_ complacent, but Katherine, Louise and I had the honor of dining with Mrs. Park Trammel]l at the home of ‘_the governor's uncle in Lakeland, a former neighbor of ours there. We visiteq in the charming home of the Mendenhalls on East Orange street, near our former home there, for four delightful days, then in Senator i Drane’s hospitable country home, a perfectly lovely place just outside of |Lakeland, for three days more, every ymoment of which was enjoyed to ‘the full. During the week we were !!hore the Florida #ederation of Women’s Clubs met in convention, {and it made me proud of my sex to /see and hear the splendid, cducatea, refined, progressive women who ap- peared at that convention. The re- | ports of club work all over the State \were convincing proof of the good that is being done by women in the way of municipal housekeeping and other public welfare work. It made clear the conviction that every town and village in the country ig in need of a Woman’s Club. Some clubs arc called Village Improvement Associa- tions, and some are called by other names, but if women are counted among the members it's a foregone conclusion that house-keeping meth- {ods anq mother thoughts will play a part in the club work. | the Federation convention was the luncheon at the Lakeland ('oun(ry! | Club, tendered the Federation dele- ' gates and the Lakeland Woman's | Club, by Mr. Hallam and his asso-! ciates. The trip to the Highlands' and the Club House was made in motor cars, and it took dozens o: them to carry the delegates. I had the honor of making the trip in com_ { pany with Mrs. Park Trammely, : Mrs. W. S. Jennings and Mrs. H. J. Drane, whose guest I was at that time. Miss Mabel Drane, the hana- some daughter of our senator, drove ‘the Dranes’ big Rambler, and it is but fair to say she drives a car as she does everything else, extraordin’ arily well. “Mr. Ohlinger came up for the last night of our visit, and attend- ed the closing meeting of the con- iventlon, with the Drane family, iwhose guests we were. We returned ,home in the Ford on that cola sat- | l‘urday and Sunday, spending the night in Bartow with my cousins, the Howard Booths. The “Villa” looked good to come home to, even after that perfect week of visiting.” Anderson-Mills : A wedding that will interest many Fort Meade people was that of Miss Mabel Miles and Mr. A. L. Ander- son, which occurred at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Miles, Thanksgiving evening, at 7 o'clock. The Miles formerly lived in Fort Meade, but for the past year have resided on their fine coun- try estate near Homeland. The wed- ding was a surprise to the entire' lIamlly. so skillfully had the young couple planned things out. “Bert’” formerly lived in Fort Meade, being owner and manager of the Fort Meade Steam Laundry. It was here that he met and wooed his charming | Chafity Benefit To- night at Aqditorium' The charity benefit for thé poor to bé given at the Auditorium tonight promises to be largely attended, as the school children took 1,000 tick- ets to sell and all reports point to these having been disposed of, every- body being anxious to relieve any suffering which may exist, thus making Christmas happier for all who are not liberally blessed with this world’s goods. It is especlally gratifying to note the interest the school children have taken in con- tributing toward the raising of funds through the sale of tickets, each child taking great pleasure In assist_ ing to secure funds with which to make some child's Christmas hap- pier. The program tonight, will be par- ticipated in by some of Lakeland’s most accomplished musical and lit- ' erary talent, and those wmno attend' will enjoy a pleasant evening and at the same time aid a worthy cause. GOOD ROADS MEETING AND FISH FRY AT FROSTPROOF An invitation has been recelved‘ from the people of Frostproof to en- ‘tertain the Polk County Good Road: Association, and those interested in securing good roads for Polk county, at a big fish fry at Frostproof on Friday, Dec. 18. Some of the promi- nent men of the county have signi- fied their intention to be there and a good time will be had. All those ! who are interested in developing the interest in and arouzing the enthusl_! asm of the county for a bond issue‘ for good roads, which it is hoped may be secured in the near future, will be doing something worth while to spend the day at Frostproof next | ‘week. On account of the entertainment at the Auditorium tonight there will terian church.
