A A A A AN AN, AN INS | i BEST CURE FOR DANDRUFF | Distressing Affliction May Be Got Rid of by Application of Simple Remedy. Many of my girl friends have been troubled with dandruff. I believe Hor- tense is right when she says that dandruff is infectious, and that the public use of combs and brushes found in the dressing rooms at receptions, and other social affairs, is a very dan- gerous practise, Every one's best friend may have dandruff and unwittingly infect one's head with it by the trying on of a hat. However, if you are so unfortu- nate as to have it the best treatment is a simple one. Rub olive oil into the scalp every night with the finger tips. This is bound to be effective. For several nights I have been unable to sleep. Sometimes it is far in the morning before I am really soundly sleeping, and in the meantime I toss and turn fretfully., Hortense is going to put me under one of her cures. It consists of a hot bath just | before retiring with a good spine rub, and a glass of hot milk. She says the room must be cool, and I must not try to play or do any mental probs lems after retiring. The brain must be inactive, and the environment quiet and conducive to rest.—Pitts. burgh Dispatch. ADAPTED TO ANY MATERIAL Pretty Frock That Has Many Things to Recommend It to the Woman of Refinement. Although the original of the little frock in the drawing was developed in cotton voile, it would be pretty in a number of other materials. The orig- fnal frock was a blue voile entirely self-trimmed save for the girdle, which was of self-tone messaline. A little guimpe of white net with neck ruffle of the same peeped above the neck of the frock. The deep shoulder yoke, almost a bolero in shape, was cut in one with the upper part of the sleeves and trimmed in mousseline-covered buttons. The lower portion of the body was gathered into this yoke. The skirt consisted of three rufiles very full and untrimmed. NOT HARD TO FASHION ROSE Artificial Flower, So Popular Just Now, Can Be Brought Easily Within the Reach of All. Artificial flowers are used to trim apparel from the top of the towering hats to the toes of the dainty slippers, and unless you have an exhaustless purse it is well to learn to make some of these flowers at home. The most popular flower is the rose —those dainty French roses used so much on evening frocks, babies' bon- nets, boudoir caps, sachets, etc. The smaller roses are made of silk or satin or of chiffon; the larger of silk, gauze, satin or velvet. These may be made all of one color or in several pastel shades that b¥snd well. Calyxes and foliage of green or bronze can be purchased at art needle-work shops or counters, The rosebuds of these tiny flowers are made by forming a wee ball of cotton and covering it with silk. It is easy to get the effect of folded petals with the silk over this foundation To make the larger roses cut eleven petals each from your two materials velvet and satin, silk gauze and siik or from two tones of the same mate rial. Make them larger than you de- sire the finished petal to be, as two petals are sewn together to form one Lay the petals together velvet, one s 1) back to back. Cost Need Not Be Creat, but Garment Will Be Found the Most Serviceable of Any That Can Be Devised. For either a shore resort or yacht- ing, white serge is indispensable, and two or three frocks of light weight white serge will be found exceedingly useful if one can afford to have them. The expense nced not be great, either, for delightful costumes of this sort are to be had ready made at reasonable prices; and so little mate- rial is needed for As a usual thing, one will get better lines and style in the in- expensive ready- made frocks that in the home-made ones, though the quality of the ma- terials used for the former may be inferior; and if one is willing to pay a fair price, either the white serge frock or the white serge suit may be satisfactorily bought in the shops. An exceedingly chie little coat and skirt of fine white scrge which would make an admirable suit for seashore wear has been chosen for deseription. The coat is made simple of line and reaches well below the hips. There is a wide belt of tan colored leather which buttons with the same colored leather buttons at the back. The coat also fastens at the back with large buttons of the white serge. In one of the small illustrations is shown a modist little one-picce frock of white serge trimmed with colored embroidery at the collar and on the blouse fronts. The vest is of dull red cloth and is embroidered in harmon- izing colors. The belt, cuffs, pocket and skirt are piped with dull red. Another suit which would be a good investment for the seashore out- fit is a severely tailored suit of dull blue, soft, basket weave woolen material, The upper part of the coat is made with a yoke running around the body of the coat underncath the armholes. To this yoke the lower part of the coat is attached with a wide overlapping seam. There is a White Serge Em- broidered in Color. stiteched tailored collar also turn back cuffs, pockets, Linen is noc an ideal material for because and The coat has large patch it musses loses the seashore readily when dawp crisp freshness which is its chief charm. But it is much worn at the shore and every seashore oufit will have at least two wear, or three of the simple one-picce linen tub frocks, even if it does not contain any f linen coat and | skirt costumes, The former are charming for fair weather, and a coat or cape of wool can readily be slipped on over such a linen frock if the air grows too damp or a fog rolls in, Thin musling and other sheer materials are not very practical for the morning or afternoon frock '( for the shore, [ though, of course, In Dark Blue they are much Satin. worn cotton etamine and voiles, utterly devold of stiffenin keep their freshness bet- ter than linen, batistes and other ma- terials of ilar character, but, of cour; if « does not 1d pressing the latter vearing, they m e 1 ) give excellent service DICTATES OF FASHION 1ered to to the foot, m there e | gedad iy DR b R R R L 2 The Professions - PEPEFSEPEGPEISDPIIHIIDIT THE EGYPTIAN SANITARIUM OF CHRONIC DISEASES Smith-Hardin Bldg., Cor.
