While not a sermon to men only it will be helpful to the bunch of sturdy fellows “who make the wheels go ’'round.” Lakeland is blesseqy with an unusually large number of this class of men, and wherever find them they are a brave, sturdy, big-hearted lot of fellcws. The i pastor of the church, when the re- vival was held, felt called to go to women Just a week after, the banker re- turned to his home with his wife, from a German, where he himself had been leader, and soon after the door closeg behind them two pistol shots were heard. Neighbors rushed in to find that the banker after having shot and killed his young,: attractive wife, hag shot himself to! ldeath. ‘*‘He that being often re- proved and hardeneth his neek, 'shall swyddenly be destroyed and that without remedy.'’ Thus ended the sermon in the midst of a silence al- lmost oppressive. Following the call for those who woulq seek salvation from sin through the merits of Christ's death, a large number of persons came forward, of whom fif- teen professed conversion. Several application for church membership were received. Tomorrow Three great services at the Au- ditorium, 11 a. m., 3 p. m. and 7:30 p. m. The afternoon service will be for mep only. As it was a business meeting no program had been prepared. Those present therefore were agreeably surprised when Dr. ang Mrs. Price, of Englewood, 111., who were guests upon invitation of Mrs. Wilson, each spoke to the club. Dr. Price is a well known lectur- er in eugenics, and gave an excerpt from his lecture, “The Recording Angel."” Mrs. Price spoke very briefly, but so interestingly of the work of the Woman's Club, Englewood, of which she is a member. Upon their return from Fort My- ers, to which they were on their way, ang where the doctor is to lec- ture, it is hoped he may speak here under the auspices of the club. As he said yeste.day, it is com- ing to be more and more & fact that in any community in which there is a Woman's (lub that organization looked to for taking the initia- tive in any movewment for the better- ment and uplft of its citizens; and Lakeland is no ¢xception. Then why should not this club rise to its high calling and make it the it should be? is power ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS TO ERECT SCHOOL BUILDING the board of public in- Polk county, Florida, authorized to in behalf of No. for Whercas, struction of has been duly bonids for and tax district issue special 1 saild school and shall file with and address their bids to J. .
