Between the mantle and no wrap at all there is often an uacomfortable gap that the light transparent scarf does not fill. This has brought back the pretty fashion of the scarf ‘wrap, or, to be more correct, it should be called a scarf shawl, it is so wide. Wrapped about the figure it often looks like a mantle. These scarfs are generally two and a half yards long and a yard of more wide. Sometimes | they are the width of the material ' used, which may be even as much as 62 inches. Have you studied the shades which suit you best? ; Have you the knack of emphasizing good points with a hue? Do you know that you look young or old according to the color you wear? It is important to select colors that you will not tire of. A neutral tint from which you can branch out into the queer, delicious shades is the best mainstay. Pink is youthful and very fresh. It is the most neutral of any of the pale , Shades, and is always resorted to aft- er other colors have failed. Blue is cold, but is useful to the person with gray-blue eyes, if worn near the face. Navy blue is the most neutral of all colors. It never enhances defects and makes plain persons seem attractive. Flame color, cerise and terra cotta should be worn only by pretty womea. Pottery Suitable for Flowers. There should be harmony between the flowers and the rcceptacles which hold them. A vase of flowers should be plain and not ornate. it is strange that so few houses are supplied with vases suitable for flowers. Pottery and glass holders are to be preferred. lly The unglazed Rookwood and Gruby ware are beautiful, but costly. There are, however, many good imitations. Cut glass, cypress glass, the irides- cent, favrile and rock crystal, and ,many other varieties of glass make beautiful receptacles for flowers. A wire screen placed on top of a wide- mquthed vase is a valuable aid in the arrangement of flowers. The Japan- ese perforated holder, to be placed in the bottom of a case, is also a splen-| did idea. By using it each flower stem can be put in a separaté hole, giving a most natural appearance, as of flowers growing, : The size of the vase must be in pro- portion to the flowers it contains, short-stemmed flowers requiring small, shallow vases, and long-stemmed flow- ers, tall and deep ones. For example, pansies, nasturtiums, sweet peas, re- quire low regeptacles; roses, lilies and chrysanthemums tall ones. Original Silhouettes. The fashion of loose sack coats and full, wide hips to draped skirts cling- ing closely about the feet, makes orig- inal silhouettes. A bending forward movement by erything for the horse at Imeans of a full-plaited effect in front MC fi lA S “ AN of the draped skirts and ralsed short tunics, all contribute to the weird and THE HARNESS MAN eccentric silhouettes of the hour. ——— ——— ———— . o o o e . e —— Alonza Logan t £ Tawnsend .LOGAN § TOWNSEND BUIL.D'NG CCNTRACTORS Furnish Suretv Birds On All Contracts Jt you want a carcful. censistent. and re- liable esttmate ur theronstructionof your building STF US IMNEPIATE} Y.
