PRETTY RIBBON CASE|pEsIGNED FOR CHILD INVALID DAINTY AND MOST USEFUL AC CESSORY FOR BOUDOIR. Work of Putting It Together Will Fur nish Amusement for the Spare Hours—Only Cardboard, Rib- bon and Thread Required. Every one who keeps a special roll of ribbon for her lingerie will like the little case illustrated. Ribbon frequently disappears just when it is wanted, but if hung on the dressing table the owner will find that much time will be saved which might otherwise be spent in a fruitless search. The case was made from two pieces of white cardboard. Each piece was cut three inches in diameter; an inch larger than the roll of ribbon which was to be inserted. The cardboard was covered with a pretty flowered ribbon, which was es- Novelty Table That Will Amuse Small Patient Who Is Inclined to Somewhat Fretful. » Those who bave the care of child invalids and bave difficulty when it is medicine time or feeding time, may like to know of the “wonder” table. It plays its part as a coaxer in times of trouble from the interest it arouses. It is made of white enameled wood, with square top and legs, but covered with the most remarkable white oil- cloth cover, with animals and birds in colors pastel on its sides. Fur- thermore, on the top of the table is a clock whose face is constantly watch- ing for the hour when it is time for the good things to be served, and its face is so like that of the man in the moon that they surely must be broth- ers! Then, the very bottles are inter- esting, for they have faces on their corks with dunce caps above them, and comfortable paper arms folded across their bulging sides. Pecially suitable, as it had running through it a gold shimmering thread. Two circular pieces of ribbon were cut out to cover each plece of card- board, and joined together by over sewing all round the edges. The roll of rose-colored ribbon was then inserted between the covers, and a hole plerced through the middle of the two latter and the roll of ribbon. A plece of ribbon was threaded through the holes and sewn securely to each cover. It was then joined at the top into a rosette. In the center of each cover a small- er rosette with ends was sewn to give a finishing touch. Should the worker wish to make one of these for a present the color scheme of the owner's room should be taken into consideration. The case would look delightful cov- ered with white linen, finished with blue or pink ribbon. In order that the linen covers could be removed easily when soiled, but- tonholed eyelets should be worked at short distances apart round the edges. A piece of ribbon should then | be run through these and tied in a wee bow. Another holder which is very easy to make is contrived from half a yard of ribbon. v The worker should choose a wide weave of silk ribbon covered with a pretty floral design. To make the cage, the ribbon should be turned up about one-third of the width, and caught at intervals of thred or four {nches with a neat fagoting stitch to form pockets. The hems on either side should be finished in the same way. The worker should next take some stiff white cardboard, and cut into four pleces in the shape of the pock- ets already made. These pleces of cardboard should be slightly smaller than the pockets, otherwise they will not fit in easily when wound with rib- bon. Some pretty lingerie ribbons should next be chosen, and & different color wound round each cardboard and ar ranged in the various pockets. To complete this case, the worker ner, and slipped into & narrow pocket, which should be allowed for when making the ribbon pockets. A famous dressmaker hag evidently been borrowing his ideas from some early Victorian picture book, for his latest achievement has been a dance frock for a debutante made entirely of wide chiffon flounces, trill upon frill from hem to waist, more frills on the bodice and a trio of narrow ones to form the short sleeve. The finished effect is, however, particularly soft and becoming, and worn with silk stockings and black velvet slippers with black ribbons crossing the instep is quite smart and original looking, with a suggestion of old world grace about it that yet contrives to be well out of the realm of the “fancy dress” variety of the “ball costume.” For Sick Child's Bedside. ranged for two sets of faces and arms 80 that, no matter on which side the nurse sets the bottle, the little medi- cine friend is still watching the wee invalid. Then there is a tiny doll girl nurse, with blue-striped gown, collar, cufts, apron and cap, just like the big nurse who is doing the real work in the sickroom, whose business it is to stand right by the bottles and see that the medicine friends give their “quick get well” doses on time. Then there are some funny little drinking ducks which look just like the real pond ducks, but have hollow backs to hold the liquid for the wee thirsty one. 0Odd little food carriers also go with the table, and it is great fun to eat chicken jelly from a little wooden tub or to eat tiny toast squares out of a little glass coal bucket. But all the little table has to offer helps amazingly to pass the time and fur- nishes mother and nurse food for never to be forgotten stories. RICANESS WITHOUT A LIMIT Any Amount of Decoration May Be Lavished on the Extremely Fash- lonable Sautoires They formerly were known as lorg: nette ribbons, but now they are com- monly called sautoires—the quarter- inch wide bands in black groegrain that comes in yard lengths and are joined under hook-equipped slides matching other slides of slightly larger size. The smart sautoire is fitted with slides of bar, circle, diamond or cres- cent shape in eolid silver or gold set with brilliants or pearls and is de- signed to match a tiny watch or a van- ity pendant, if lorgnettes are not used. For elderly women the smartest thing in sautoires is fitted with slides in cut jetes, some of them in butterfly shape, and to suspend from these are circlets in jets concealing a base of silver containing a vanity mirror. Even more novel is the silk cord of yard length and of a brilliant shade of green, blue or red, supposed by the which come in pearls, amber, jet or brilliants—whichever one can afford. bow of the tulle is apt to give a blowsy look to any but a young face of the “fluffy” type.
