It went out last spring and you should have used the putty tones. It's really a crime when you want everything right up to date. You should phone them right away to change it.” “But all our things look better against a brown background,” protest- ed the bride. “And I hate that dull putty shade! And Jack—" “My dear,” said the caller, shaking a finger archly at her, “I know Jack— I knew him years and years before he even knew you were on earth, and don’t you begin by letting him decide things! I didn't know you were such a close friend of Jack's!” “Naughty!” murmured the caller, a bit consciously. “I should have sup- posed a man would have told his wife everything! Why, Jack was at our house morning, noon and night in those days! Oh, {sn't it a shame you got so many lamps for wedding pres- ents! The drawing shows a pretty even- ing gown of the new and beautiful crepe de Paris in violet shades. This material, which promises to be the rage for afternoon a n d evening gowns, is one of the new- est importations. | For the gown shown here it is used as bodice foundation and for the draped skirt. The upper part of the cor sage 18 draped with self-tone chif- fon cloth, which, falling off from t h e shoulder, " does duty as sleeve also, with only the assistance of a band of vel- vet above the elbow. A band of jew- eled passementerie marks the joining j== of the upper and lower blouse por tions just below the arms. Broad bands of black velvet edge the tunio, which is made of the chiffon and ends in a slight train. These velvet bands continue as far as the passementerie band on the blouse. Girle’ Party Dresses. Net is lovely. Sheer lace is good. Soft silks are liked. Silks are plain and figured. Rosettes are likely to finish girdles. Even fur trims some small dresses. Fichu effects are general on bodices. A chemisette eftect finishes the front. Sleves range from next to nothing to three-quarter. The edge of lace may figure at the foot of the skirt. A band of silk or velvet is put un- der the edge of some skirts. Blouse Revival. The crossover blouse, which was popular some fifteen years ago, has been revived. This blouse is usually imade of lace net, and its principal charm is that it is devoid of a single button or hook. The blouse has two long fichu ends, | which the wearer crosses over her | waist and fastens either in front or | at the back. She is thus enabled to ! | make the V-shaped opening at the | neck high or low to suit her own taste. Few blouses in net or ninon fasten | at the back, and even those with high collars button down the front. Full- length or threc-quarter length sleeves are the rule. Poplin Petticoat.
