Just think of Arkansas, good, old “Arkansaw,” being without a saloon from one end of the State to the oth- er! That’s what happened yesterday in that land of the Arkansaw trav- eler, and it's enough to make us all exclaim with the old lady seeing the elephant the first time, “Who under the blessed canopy would a thunk it!” A good many of the uninformed still think of Arkansans as a wild, raw, primitive people, but the State has moved with the rest of the world, and the very fact that it has the intelligence, character and cour- age to drive every saloon from its borders is conclusive testimony to the quality of its people. Doubtless no one now alive will live to see a prohibition amendment to the fed- eral constitution, but some of them will see nearly every State in the Union free of the saloon traffic and the liquor business fighting for its life in its last stronghold in the big cities.
