Hend- ley, who lives on the Bruce Smith place, claims he has discovered a sure cure for cholera in hogs in ten days’ time, and if given regularly for twenty.one days, will prevent the reappearance of the disease. Hendley is not selling the prescrip- tion, but gives it free to those desir- ing to use it for their swine, which is_certainly commendable in him. The prescription follows: 1 pint red pepper, 1 gjll spirits of turpentine 1 pint of gunpowder, and mix well together and igve one tablespoonful three times a day for tweaty-one drag.out fuss about the matter. The foregoing remarks are prompted by the fact that yesterday afternoon a pleasing looking gentleman walked into the Telegram office and with a smile he said: “I've got a crow to pick with this paper for slandering Kansag." We assured him that he aroused our admiration at once, for | i person who will not stick up for his native State is, in our opinion, not a worthy son, and we were glad to cive the defense the floor The gentleman proved to be Mr. A. M. Ragle, of Coffeeville, Kan., who, when we gave him our author- | ity for the statement in a recent is. sue that recent drougth had killed all vegetation, ruined erops, ete., [ assured us that while this condition might prevail in the western part of the State that the eastern portion | was in good shape; this year's corn crop yielding sixty bushels to the acre. He declared that Kansas, as we all know, {8 one of the great States of the Union, but during the conversation we were pleased to learn that Mr. Ragle has purchased 1,960 acres of land near Lakeland, and has one of the finest orange yroves in Orange county at Orlando, and 18 now down here looking around trying to decide whether he will make his permanent home in Lakeland or Orlando. Both are fine towns, but after meeting Mr. Ragle we cannot but hope he will decide in Lakeland’s favor. He is a genial gentleman, who makes friends easily and would be a splendid addition to Lakeland’s citizenship.
