DRANE TELLS OF HIS | AULQuULILE TRIP ' ACRUSS THE STATE. (Continued from Page 1.) State. Several times 1 had to cau- uvon the chaifeur for fear he would drive too fust, but, notwithstanding this, we made an average of twenty- five wiles per hour, and for lowg dis- tlances made thifly-five miles per hour. Spent Sunday night in Ocala, leaving there at 8 a. m., Monday, and made twenty-four miles to Dun- uellon in one hour, arriving there at Y a m. Probably twenty miles of this road is first class, Left Dunnel- lon at 7:20, arrived at Inverness at 10:10, a distance of eighteen miles, without attempting to hurry. Arrived at Floral City at 10:40, a distance o1 seven miles; passed through Floral City without stopping. Arrived at Brooksville—sixteen miles—at 12 noon. I told the good roads goodby five miles south of Floral City, and the last eleven miles into Brooksville was the worst road encountered in the entire journey. A right-of-way has been cleared, showing that th: people of Hernando county are think- ing of good roads, but the present condition is too bad to be described on account of sand, which seemed to be bottomless. Left Brooksville at 1:30, arrivea at Dade City at 3:35, a distance of twenty-three miles, Which roads were equally as bad as the eleven miles north of Brooksville. Was detained at Dade City on ac- count of very heavy rain, until 4:30; left for Plant City, a distance of! twenty-five miles, arriving there at’ 6:30; the roads being very bad until Knights Station was reached five niles out of Plant City. But for the heavy rain packing the sand this | rcad would have been something! fierce. Remained at Plant City about ! twenty minutes, then drove ten mileg irto Lakeland, having good hard sui~ face road for four miles out, where was encountered Polk county sanil| leading six miles into Lakeland. Le-! ing a loyal citizen of Polk county i would rather be excused from de- scribing the six miles from Youmans t> Lakeland, but will only say that I hope I may never have to travel over it again. I got through without serious ac- cident, other than a break of a spring in the town of Dade City. It I were to give advice I would advise that no one try to drive an automobile between Lakeland and Floral City. Velours and silver beaver hats are the rage of the immediite moment, and feathers are only in demand for full dress occasions. These hats, with others of silk plush and silky felt, are worn even with the most erstwhile costumes, and a girl wear ing a frock of white embroidery by the seashore will choose with it a hat of silky olive plush trimmed round the crown by a band of white plum- age, breaking into wings in froat.
