STEPHENS PRESIDENT OF GROVE CORPORATION. ! FIRE THIS MORNING CAUSED CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE Quite a good deal of excitement was occasioned this morning when the fire alarm sounded, and it was found that the home of Mr. R. G.! Paterson, near the corner of West; Main street and Missouri mvenue, was on fire. The fire department responded with its usua] alacrity and was at the scene almost before the alarm finished sounding. The fire had gained good headway before it was rcticed, the roof being well afire when the alarm was sent in. By 0od work the fire was soon extin- guished, but not before the roof was burned off the front part of the house. All Mr. Paterson’'s furniture was saved, willing “ands having tak- €n everything to a point of safety soon after the fire was discovered. It is not known how the fire caught, but presumably from the fluc. Mrs. Paterson had burned some pape: irash in the upstairs fireplace, and the interior cvidently caught from a spark and was ablaze for about an Lour before the flames finally burst through the roof. The house is owned by Mr. John Patterson, and is covered by insur- ance. Work will commence at onc» on repairing the structure, and Mr. Paterson's family will be able to move back in about two weeks.
