f Gore Sees Possibility Of More Demo Cooperation With Ike By JACK BELL WASHINGTON ( — Sen. Gore (D-Tenn) said today President Eisenhower has only to maintain his present attltude to get more cooperation from the Democratic 84th Congress on foreign and mili- tary problems than he received from the Republican 83rd. Gore, who labeled himself as “one of the severest critics” of some Eisenhower administration domestic policies, said he was im- d with the President’s moves toward consultation with Demo- crats on international and defense matters. i Eisenhower told his news con- ference yesterday he believes Democrats will give very real cooperation on national security, foreign aid and international diplo- matic programs. He said he ex- the maximum of support from Republicans on tse and estic sals he makes. neqraeantokrn the President appeared to be entirely sincere in his intentions to consult with the Democrats before decisions were made, Gore said: : “If he maintains that attitude, he will get general cooperation from us. As one of the severest critics of some of his domestic policies. I will not hesitate to give my wholehearted support to him on international and military prob- lems. “In fact, if his attitude remains the same, he will get more back- ing in those fields from the next Congress than he‘did from the last because there will be fewer Repub- licans to oppose his foreign poli- cies.” Sen. Sparkman (D-Ala), a mem- ber of the Senate Foreign Relations with Eisenhower’s plan to have Cabinet members consult the top Democrats and Republicans on responsible congressional commit- tees before decisions are crystal- lized on various programs. Eisenhower gave no indication, however, that such consultation would extend to purely domestic problems, and Democrats, in turn, made it clear that opposition to some of these proposals will be vigorous. Eisenhower’s announcemnt that he will ask Congress to continue prsent rates of corporation and excise taxes that otherwise would drop April 1 was met by Gore with a proposal for repeal of the administration-supported cut in dividend taxes yoted by the 83rd Congress. This reduction on‘ stockholders’ dividend income taxes costs about 300 million dollars in yearly reve- nue, whereas the loss on corpora- tion and excise levies would range around three billion dollars a year.
