Page 10 THE KEY WEST CITIZEN Wednesday, December 15, 1954 Try A ‘Quick Action’ Citizen Classtied Ad- Dial 2.5661 or 2.5662 Doctor Raps “Sex Hysteria” Wave nUS. By ROBERT GOLDENSTEIN CHICAGO (#)—A doctor said here a wave of “sex hysteria” has caused a sharp increase in illegiti- mate teen-age births and a some- tmes highly dangerous bosom con- sc among young girls. Dr. Goodrich C. Schauffler, Portland, Ore., obstetrician and gynecologist, told a convention of doctors that illegitimate births in the teen-age bracket have doubled in the last 15 years. He said some girls scarcely into adolescence suffer from a bosom inferiority complex and wear min- iature “falsies.”” In his own practice, he said, “I have had one attempted suicide and several serious and total de- rangements contingent upon real or fancied breast irregularities. “These call for more attention from the physician in the present age because of accelerated sex trends contingent upon Hollywood influences and the insane empha- sis by modern advertising and the press upon this semirespectable sex appendage.” In an address prepared for the sixth American Congress on Ob- stetrics and Gynecology, Schauffler said: “It must be recognized as a background to the observation that there is a greatly increased aware- ness of sex in the younger group, stimulated and maintained by sex hysteria, which is a calculated instrument of modern journalism and so-ealled entertainment trends. “Beyond this, there are increas- ingly loose practices; bad exam- ples and lack of supervision in parental and home influences; liquor, narcotics, automobiles, auto courts, and finally the gang influ- ence, which combine these ele- ments and tend, in certain groups, amost to enforce premarital sex practices.” CAA Diseloses Safety Measure By VERN HAUGLAND INDIANAPOLIS (# — The Civil Aeronautics Administration an - nounced today the achievement of a major step toward preventing plane-crash fires—the development of flexible bladder-type fuel tanks for aircraft. CAA said in a news release that Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and U.S. Rubber Co, have developed rubberized nylon materials _ 80 strong, light and elastic that: © 1, It has now become possible to make integral tanks—fuel cells built into an airplane’s wings—out oi them, 2. In accidents where passengers can be expected to survive the crash impact, these tanks will not rupture and cause fire. “The CAA turns this informa- tion over to industry for its use in the manufacture and sale cf this type of tank,” the announce- ment said. The flexible materials were de- veloped and tested as part of a six-year -research program at the CAA Technical Evaluation Center here. One CAA official said that fire after the crash, resulting from the rupture of fuel tanks and the spray- ing of gasoline over the wreckage, accounts for almost onefourth of airplane fatalities. “The problem of fire deaths aft- er airplane crashes appears on its way out,” he said. Dr. H. J. Osterhof, Goodyear’s director of research, said, ‘‘The CAA program has proved that these tanks are practical. We could begin manufacturing them for aircraft tomorrow.” Global War Fear Is Minor Worry RIVERSIDE, Calif. (@—There is littie present danger of global war, eretary of the Navy Charles S. says, because “the free too strong, actually and and our potentional is still too weak.” speech last night at the Institute of World Affairs, Thomas said, however, that the Korean \ demonstrates that smaller wa can be “just as defeating and just as conclusive” as full- scale wars. That is why, he said, the free world still needs con- ventional weapons and ground troops. emy BEAUTIFUL CORAL HOTEL EFFICIENCY APTS. Reasonable rates, excellent for 2 or 3 people. Cool and quiet. Young Jap Tries To Sell His Life TOKYO WA sullen young man with his “life for sale” kept up his lonely, chilly wait for a buyer today in downtown Tokyo. He spurned offers of charity, Around his neck hung a neatly lettered sign: “Kono Inochi Uri- mas”—‘“This Life for Sale.” Satoshita Horita’s asking price is 70,000 yen (about $195). The 22-year-old Japanese turned down offers of money from shop- pers. He said he is so deeply in debt his only way out is to sell his services for life. In two days of waiting, no takers. RADIOACTIVE DUST REPORTED IN SNOW SEOUL (®—Prof. Kwon Yung-dai of Seoul National University said today he found radioactive dust in the season’s first heavy snow here Monday. He warned against eating it, saying it could be a result of the United States or Russian nu- clear bomb tests during the past year. Separate Stars! LEGAL NOTICES <CONTINTED?
