A heated argument began when Hexter festified about ‘the signif- ieance of the absence of abdominal reflexes. He found such absence on the right side of Sheppard’s abdomen, he said. “in and of itself, such an absence of reflex doesn’t mean a thing,” Hexter said. Defense Atty. William J. Japan Avalanche Victims Sought By Rescue Teams TOKYO (#®—Rescue teams poked in vain today through a mass of snow, rock and splintered trees for a trace of at least 14 college stu- dents engulfed by a mammoth avalanche that roared down the slopes of world famous Mt. Fuji. The body of one student was found last night. The 14 are feared dead. Twenty-four ins another group escaped. The two-pronged torrent of snow ripped a 1,000-yard path down the icy slopes of the cone-shaped moun- tain, 60 miles southwest of Tokyo. The avalanche, apparently touched off by high winds, started just below Fuji’s 12,425-foot erest. It split as it roared down the slope, one prong catehing the group of 15 students climbing the mountain and the other 24 descending. McCook, who lives near the Hillsborough River in sub- urban Tampa, heard a crash at a dump heap at the river. He circled around the car in his own auto before getting to it. When he reached the vehicle. both front doors were open and the machine apparently had been stopped when it ran onto a pine stump. No one was around. Later in returning to his home nearby, McCook said he saw a man wearing a red plaid shirt and dark trousers. He is not sure this man was driver of the ear. In the car were found a sprig of . mistletoe and a note signed by “guess who?” His father, Glenn "|R. McDonald, said they had no connection with McDonald’s dis- appearance. His driver license also was found. TODAY'S STOCK MARKET NEW YORK (#—Stocks swung ahead smartly today in an ex- treme active market in easly deal- ings, but there were (4reas of depressed prices.
