Big John Scribner (well over 6 feet tall) is owner of this outfit. He has the biggest electrical repair company this side of Miami — the biggest stock of V Belts — the biggest number of new Delco motors (all sizes) — he is housed in one of the biggest buildings in Key West’ (Curry Sons ch Front Street). Bigness isn't everything, however, so let's dig into more pertinent facts concerning the Key West Electrical Repair Com- Ronald J. Guilmette Winding Coil for Electric Motor Early History John Scribner — most folks call him “Jack” — served his apprenticeship in electrical repair work at an early age. Hig father was an employee of GE. By the time John was eight years old, he. was beginning to learn a little bit about genera- tors. By the time he was in his teens, he was able to hold his own with most electrical repair nien. Scribner came to Key West eight years ago. His first shop was a backporch affair in his home on Whitehead St. And-in this rough, small beginning lies the story of the exceedingly big things which are now characteristic ef Key West Electrical Re- pair Company. For instance, when John wanted a V Belt, he used to scramble all over town looking for one. He swore then — and it has proven true — that if he ever got enough money, he would buy V Belts of every description. You should see the stock he now keeps on hand at 611 Front Street! Though Scribner didn’t say so, I imagine he made himself the same kind of promise with regard to his cramped working quarters and that is probably why h@ now occupies the huge Curry Sons building. Ernest Salazar, an “all-around” expert who has been with the company since its inception except for time out gaining further training in shops up the country. Sam Bath, six years with Key West Electrical Repair. He does the single phase work, installs motors on the job and specializes in wiring aboard boats. Ronald Guilmette, a retired Navy Chief. Ronald recently joined the company because of his est in electrical repair work. He is studying under the GI Bill and his enthusiasm and interest have already gained him a valuable reputation within the organization.
